starlite wrote:I have offered to pay £50 tomorrow, and then £100 per month which means some other debts will be left unpaid and we will have nothing to live on, but this is a priority I guess.
But they refused! Why would they rather let this bailiff thing drag on instead of just accepting our offer.
I agree with the other poster in that you shouldn't offer to pay what you can't afford, but even a fiver every month (in addition to your normal monthly payment of course) would probably help in any review of your case by council officials. I would pay this directly to the council though, not the debt collector.
This is just my simple common sense approach - I'm sure if it compromises your situation at all other will come along and point that out.0 -
argh...council cannot accept it, they gave no reason, just said it has to stay with the bailiffs unless they cannot get in touch with us for a prescribed period (wouldn't say what it was) and then it will be passed back.
I'm trying to decide whether to call him or not..or maybe just run away to my mums for a week and forget this whole nightmare for a whileMembre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

oh - forgot to add, in the letter it says 'will be attending your property, with police if neccesary, in order to gain entry'
does this mean he could get police here to kick down the door..i have read your advice and the national debtline stuff which suggests otherwise, is this just an empty threat?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
Wel, I've just read the whole of this from start to finish and I felt like I was reading a good book, albeit a very sad one.
I must admit to reading the first bit and thinking 'how can some people get into so much debt ... bet they smoke, drink etc etc blah' ... now I've read all of it, I've changed my tune although I'm not sure I understand how some people DO get into so much debt. I'm not judging BTW, it's just difficult to understand.
Anyway, I'm with you in spirit, back up the others who say don't let him in. I'm pretty sure the police are only there to prevent a breach of the peace but as you're a polite young lady who is going to stay very calm, there's no chance of a breach is there?!
Best of luck, come back and let us know how you get on. Don't worry about the police though, they're not there to give you a hard time. I've texted my friend BTW who is a police officer to ask what their presence would be there for. I'll let you know as soon as she replies but I'm pretty sure as you haven't broken any law, it will be fine for you. xxKen Livingstone is my mother0 -
Okay thanks..and just to let you know our situation
I was a student until april of this year, and was 3 months pregnant upon leaving. Knowing I couldn't commit to a 'career' job I registered with many temp agancies, but spent a month with no luck at all, given that most students had finished too so demand for work was high. I have also mainly worked in pubs and restaurants before, and knew I couldn't get such a job becuase of the smoke for one, and being on my feet all day would get increasingly ifficult. Then i became very ill and was in hospital with bleeding and incompetent cervix.. Fortunately I fully recovered from this, and al was well, and then I was diagnosed with SPD, which is basically a misalignment and rubbing together of pelvic joints, making it very hard to walk or do much to be honest!
During this time I was unaware that I could claim benefit as I wasn't a 'job-seeker' but have since found out otherwise and applied for incacpcity which is taking a long time to go through. T obe honest I was very ill and stressing so much about the welfare of my baby I didn't think much about what I would be entitled to,
In the meantime my boyfriend has been working, bringing home barely enough to live on,and we have managed, just overlooked this debt, which i caould kick myself for, but at least a lesson is learnt.
As i said before, being stuck at home and very far from family it will be devestating if our computer is taken away to cover a measly amount towards this debt as it is one of the few things I have to fill my time.
I just hope things work out for us..this stress is unbearable
I also have low blood pressure at the moment which is causing fainting spells...i guess at least the stress may rectify that!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
Yes it may well cure your low blood pressure but best to try to cure it all together eh?!
I didn't mean to pry, I just don't understand sometimes but that's because it's never happened to me .. same as you may not understand how scary flying a helicopter is (unless you've done it of course!!).
Anyway, you've kept some humour so that's one battle won. You're right that you can't work in smoke filled places now, your baby is a very important thing and could be an Olympic champion one day.
I hope that people on here have made you see that there is a small light for you at the end of this tunnel. It may only be a chink of light but it's there and it's waiting for you to deal with today, then you can move towards it with the help of NDL or CAB or whoever you choose of course.
When you have sorted out this problem, my advice for the future is to perhaps move to just outside of London, it'll save you a packet in rent and only cost a little for the train (for your partner). I know some people love London but your health and the babies health are more important than a location.
Best wishes

Yes..we are looking into moving asap as we are on the second floor (so no good for a pram) and on a very busy road. Hoping to move into kent as thats where dp works and it seems silly him doing a 'reverse commute' from zone 2 london into the sticks..hehe.
Only problem is we cannot afford moving costs and bond etc until dps contract is secured, and our rent at this place is on a friendly basis, as the flat belongs to his parents (so best to stick with while we have limited and unsecure income)
still waiting for the doorbell..not sure whether to ignore it or speak to him, and what to say?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0
