Starlite - nothing more to add, other than re-iterate what everyone else has said.
Don't open the door to him. At least if you are upstairs then he can't hassle you too much. Tell him you know you rights & he's not coming in. Don't be rude, just firm. If he persists on ringing the door bell etc just put some music on nice & loud & ignore him.
There's not a chance anyone in another flat will let him in through the main front door is there?

No- they both work weekdays, but one of them actually works in the shop below us so I'm worried he will see him at the door and come out to let him in. This has happened once before when the intercom battery was dead- which was lucky as it was my gp, but I don't want it to happen in this situation!

Starlite, you could always call the police, you shouldn't feel intimidated in your own home. Make an offer to pay (Not the £50 now £100 a month - There is never any point in offering more than you can afford, all that will happen is you will fail to keep it up and be back where you started) and advise him that if he doesn't accept this then he should go away, and if he fails to leave you will call the police.

If he doesn't go away then call them, he knows he cannot harrase you, and he knows that if you have made an offer he has to go.

    Hi Starlite,

I sympathise with your situation, it looks like your stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The important thing is to keep your cool when he comes. DO NOT LET HIM IN! If you have to talk to him through the door stay calm. Don't let him hear that he is getting to you.

Explain to him that he is going to get nothing from you today and you will contact his company in writing to explain the situation in due course.

Most importantly, remember to stay calm and not let him hear he is getting to you.

    Good luck!

  • starlite You really have my sympathy here having read the posts from first to last it must be an awful thing to have to deal with especially given your condition.
I just wanted to say again DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR he will gain access even if it is only getting his foot or hand in a small opening of the door and thats it he is in...... But one more thing you say he is coming at 2pm ??? what time is your other half getting back from work 5-6pm ??? Beware the bailliff might still be outside and gain entry this way when your OH gets home and trust me I have seen enough T.V and Posts on here to know they will wait for hours if they think there will be some movement that will gain them entry...... Maybe you could draft a letter to him stating you are aware of your rights and that you have tried all avenues to resolve this without the need to be subjected to this given your condition and outline some income and expenditure and an offer that you can afford to keep to put in an enevelope addressed to him (name) and pin to your door then do not answer him make out you are out Maybe that is worth a try and if offer accepted it will stop him mounting up charges for visits or maybe he will just send back to council saying unable to enforce entry to seize goods ???? worth a try ........ Good Luck

Even if the chap downstairs lets him through, you dont have to let him in your own door! Just keep that firmly shut and locked.

I called the shop, and told our neighbour that someone may be at the door later that I don't want to see, and he said no problem. Hope it hasn't gotten them gossiping about why.
In better news, I am actually having a proper discussion with council and have been asked to call back in 10 minutes once they have gathered info from the bailiff comany..fingers crossed they can do something.
