multi region just means it can play dvds from other world regions. it will be able to play copies. if you can afford one with a hard drive then get one. it wont be hard to use. people seem to recommend panasonic alot so i would go with a panasonic.

Being in business, hubby has some business contacts, one of them selling electrical goods including TV etc. They are very honest and straightforward when giving him advice even though they know we wont buy from him as they cannot match the best price hubby can find.

Hubby recently asked about best TVs and DVD recorders.

    Anyway, his recommendations were

    TV - Samsung

    DVD recorder - Panasonic

We now have the Panasonic DMR-EX87 and what a beauty it is. Even for me, a total numbskull when it comes to working these things, I have found it easy to pick up how to record and even edit the recordings. We record to hard drive, at the touch of a button through the EPG, and anything we want saved we transfer to disk and it's easy as pie.

Unfortunately this model is above your budget as it has Freeview, a 250gb hard drive and disk drive. However, my point is that Panasonic as a brand was recommended, not the particular model we have. So maybe check out if Panasonic have something nearer your budget.

Edited to add that son has a Samsung DVD recorder to go with his shiny black Samsung TV. He's not impressed!

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

i dont think anyone would recomend one for the amount you want to spend. we were recently thinking of replacing our sony because we had trouble with it. i was looking at a philips because it seemed to have plenty of things going for it and it was compact. most people here tried to steer me away and towards a panasonic but they are nearer to £200. we ended up not bothering. we just got our sony repaired instead.

you can get a dvd recorder for around £100. whether they are any good though that is the question. when i was looking around a couple of months ago the panasonic was £179 without a hard drive and over £200 with a hard drive. they usually include freeview. they are likely to record on both - and + format discs. some recorders only do one or the other. i think it would be a good idea to get one with a hard drive as they are usually alot simpler to use than fiddling with the discs all the time.

Definitely! Just go to the EPG, highlight the programme and press OK. Job done. If it's something you want to keep, say a film, for future viewing then it can then be copied to a disk.
