  • Wouldn't it be refreshing if one day someone actually said i was caught speeding, i was bang to rights and i'm going to take my 3 points and £60 and thats the last we hear of it.

I had said penalty for doing 35mph in a 30mph zone. In the end, I paid up because, although I believe I always observe speed limits in built up areas, I had no proof of my speed at the time.

A few weeks later and my wife's car was hit behind by some old dear. Wife's car was written off and wife suffered neck injuries. Did the old dear get 3 points and a £60 fine? No, she got a new car through her insurance. Who, I ask, was the biggest threat to road safety?

my wife got 3 points and £60 fine for speeding and admits she was speeding and deserved it

  • Breaking the speed limit is the cause of around 2% of all KSI incidents annually.

So please shut up about it tbfh. Its irrelevant.
  • More accidents are caused by pedestrians not crossing the road safely than by speeding motorists.

Stay off my road and I'll stay off your pavement.

  • The police do not use radar guns. They use LTI20-20's which are laser devices - and demonstrably inaccurate (which is why some US states have banned their use).

You should go to pepipoo and ask. Personally I do not think anything will happen.

I've just spent a while reading through pepipoo & the terms ''evidential radar speed meters'' & ''radar'' are used very frequently. The site does not say that all hand held 'guns' are lasers or otherwise. There must be there several (many?) different types of hand held 'speed guns'?

I got a letter saying that my car had been spotted being driven by someone not wearing a seatbelt. My son had been driving at that time but hadn't been stopped. My son said he must have forgotten to put it on - but there was no actual proof he didn't have one on. We have beige seatbelts too so they can be a bit hard to spot. We got fined £30. Not much choice but to pay the fine.

We only have the OP s word for it that he was hiding.

You say you were "doing what you thought was the correct speed limit",which is somewhat different to saying "I was driving at the correct speed" ,anyway ignorance of the law is no defence.

You say you work closely with the police,I suspect what bugs you more is you think you are therefore owed some sort of deference-you are not. Please tell me you are not neighbourhood watch.

P.S.I speak as someone who has been caught speeding and paid the price, nearly losing my licence so I am not exactly an angel.Accept you have done wrong and move on.

A GATSO uses radar, but is fixed in the ground.

The police no longer use radar hand held speed measuring devices.

There is a picture in todays papers of Richard Brunstrums Force (Wales?) who has hidden a speed camera in the back of a horse box parked up at the side of the road.So by that criteria-its legal.

Of course it's legal, and what is the problem with it ? there's no horse in in there :D or do you expect it to lift it's tail and flash each time :rotfl:
