Cot Bedding for Newborn Baby
Comments

I never bought matching bed sheets when DD was born, it didn't matter, it's not like she was aware that her sheet and blanket weren't matching!
I bought fitted sheets and she she slept with those breathable blankets (like you get in hospital) and that did her until she was 6months, then onto grow bags! She's almost 2 now and has just got a cot bed duvet set, which I got for cheap. No need to be extravagant, the matching sets are more for the parents benefitWin £2008 in 2008 no #49 £601.91/£2008

i bought all ds's bedding from tesco, it was really cheap, plain white but great quality and withstood numerous washes. I don't know how good the range is now because that was 3 years ago!
Definately agree with giving the cot bumpers a miss, i remember reading that they restrict air flow to the baby.
Good luck and congratulations! x0 -
My daughter found Matalan and instore cot sheets are good quality and cheap.0

in my experience and opinions just fitted sheets and a grobag (when you feel comfortable enough to pop baby into one) is all you need. you dont need fancy cot bumpers and frilly bits that look pretty.
i always look at bumpers being a potential hazzrd.
BUT this is my opinion and everyone is different.
enjoy your new baby!!!!!!!There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Hi, congratulations on your forthcoming arrival
The crib bale says it is 70x90 - that sounds small for a cot, or are you getting an actual crib?
Personally I wouldn't bother with it, it sounds like an expensive waste and I think you should only use cellular blankets with babies under 1yr, also cot bumpers are unsafe as they can lead to overheating (a risk factor in SIDS)
Just get a couple of sheets, a few blankets, and when your baby is big enough a grobag is much better as they can't kick them off.
Muslins - I have about 25 and it's still not enough
:T for the whole post and an extra :T for the muslins. they can be a bit pricey in mothercare but they are a godsend. and they wash up brilliantly. 2 years on and im using the ones i had for chops for mouse. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
oh and wilkinsons sell cellular blankets of good quality for a lot less than mothercare. also sell bedding so have a look in there if you have one local.
regards how often to change the bedding. it varies. if theyre sick then obviously change it, its handy to have a spare out and on the side for in the middle of the night if needed. same with a blanket and a change of babygrow and vest (or pyjamas which i use). saves you rummaging in the middle of the night.
if theyre not sick in their bed then dont feel you have to change it every day.
and buy the vanish oxi action white to keep your whites white! it really does work and even brings grubby items back to sparkling. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -

One was slipped over the mattress from the top, and the other from the bottom. I then made sure the overlap bit was at the bottom by his feet so he couldn't get stuck.
We managed a week with blankets before we cracked and got a grobag suitable from 7lbs upwards - we've never looked back.
I know the matching bedding looks gorgeous, but you'll find a better use for the money - honestly!
thats so right. ive got everything including duvet (???? for a newborn???) bumper for the crib and even the canopy thing with the veil and i havent used it for either. very pretty but inpracticle. (never brought them, got given them by a work colleague)There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Hi Katgoddess, I'm due on April 21st! We both haven't got long to go now!
I have a cot and mattresse and a couple of blankets but I haven't got any cot sheets yet and I can't seem to find them anywhere! Any ideas? I bought both baby blankets from Primark at only £3 each - bargain!0 -

My local independant shop sells cot sheets - the DK Cot brand. They are slightly more expensive than Mothercare but I don't know about the quality. I've seen this brand on Ebay. Babies R Us bedding are cheaper than both.
I've just remembered Wilkinsons! They have a limited range of baby bedding here. If you are happy with white then I think this is the best budget buy. I can't comment on quality though. Remember to get Quidco cashback.
We have now been given a Moses Basket and bedding so we will be using that for a while and sorting out the cot later.
Woohoo my thread made the weekly email.:T

i am surprised nobody has mentioned cutting down full size sheets fro cot/crib sheets? I bought a plain white flat sheet from Asda and cut it into 4 then hemmed the edges and had 4 fantastic sized crib sheets. just check the size of your cot/crib against the size of the sheet so you don't cut them too small. Hey Bingo - money saved!!!! cot sheets can also be used for crib sheets by folding them double then if baby is sick in the night you can turn them top to toe until the morning!0
