I was so tempted to reply to that post when I read it to clarify if there was any intention to make phone calls on as well...
what on earth is the point of buying an iPhone if you're not going to use internet or camera as well as the phone?
Or maybe it's a generation thing - I remember how having the right trainers was meant to help make the right friends and attract girls (but Mrs Harper is far too smart to be that shallow). I never fell for it, and most of those 'right friends' are selling drugs or in jail, and those girls - well, never seen them around during the day!
...but the phenomenon of being mugged for owning something 'sexy' was still there in those days - even if your mugger had bigger feet than you!!!
Have to agree with the N95 being a brick though I love the feature set - Nokia's E51 is a fantastic phone compromising a little on N95 features but, to my mind, a great example of what a good comms device should let me do - hence not being too bothered about GPS or a fancy camera.
But anyway... I digress, this thread's about iPhones and T-mobile, and how to make it all sexy :rotfl:The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

You just have to enter TMobile GPRS settings in to gain web access, which involves entering 3 different settings.
Software is out there to unlock the Iphone in less than 5 minutes and all you do is update to latest version in ITunes and then load the software on your PC and click DoItAll. 5 minutes later you have a fully unlocked IPhone with access to loads of 3rd party applications that are not available with the 02 version.
I use ITunes, maps, weather etc and all standard applications apart from Visual Voicemail (big deal).
With the unlocking software I use if a fault occurs with the phone you can re virginize it putting it back to its original state.
The safari browser make up for the lack of speed and I do not find a lot of difference loading a web page than using my N95 or Vario 3.
Just make sure you have a web and walk package.
Using the Iphone with wi-fi is great especially using You Tube and BBC iPlayer and battery life is better than most 3g phones.
As an aside, If someone was able to offer a new unlocked 8GB Iphone with 12 months warranty on a TMobile Flext 35 tariff with WebNWalk @ £42.50 per month, but the IPhone Initial cost was £69.99, do you think it would have an appeal.?
Just a quick question. Is that all you need just the flex and web and walk to also use instant email?
or do you also need flex + web n walk + instant email?
I currently have a blackberry with T-Mobile and thinking of upgrading to a iPhone using the same contract. Currently paying 25 + 7.50 + 7.50 (for blackberry instant email).
How do you use email on the iphone if you dont have the extra option of instant email./?

just set up the email client to automatically poll your mailbox every so often (e.g. 30 mins) and it'll go and check your mail regularly. The instant email is only for devices supported by the service like your blackberry. Quite honestly, if you're a personal email user, I can't see the justification for paying twice just to get the instant arrival of mail. The thanks button is here to the right. Its not a personal email account like hotmail or yahoo mail. Its my work email which uses IMAP. Will the iphone still support this without the instant email option?
or am i better off keeping the instant email option?

AFAIK the T-mobile Instant email only supports Blackberry devices (it might be able to fetch the mail from an IMAP server, but can only push out to a Bberry or something that supports the Blackberry service - I think there are a few non-RIM devices that do)
Can't advise on whether or not the iPhone will be able to retrieve mails direct from your work servers. The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

If it's standard IMAP the iPhone should work.
The instant e-mail option is, as sid harper says, irrelevant.0 -

Hi,
I wonder if you can help me with some t-mobile pop/smtp settings. I have an unlocked iPhone on t-mobile and it works beautifully but I can't get my hotmail or my private email account on my phone. Particularly for my private email account, the phone keeps telling me there is a problem with the pop/smtp settings.
It was suggested I need some t-mobile settings rather than my 'pop.myemail.com' and 'smtp.myemail.com' settings.
Can you offer any help, please?0 -

Hotmail is not accessible via POP/IMAP unless you pay money for Hotmail Plus.
You will need to use the correct private account settings for receiving e-mail. Obviously T-Mobile has no access to your private e-mails, so you can't collect your private e-mails from a T-Mobile server.
Depending on your account, you may be able to send directly via your private e-mail servers (preferable). The important thing here is that you will need to use a non-default port (e.g. port 587) for e-mail submission. Most decent e-mail providers support this, but a lot of free accounts provided by ISPs do not. If you are unable to use your own SMTP server details, you can use smtp.t-email.co.uk (yes, t-email, go figure) with no authentication to send e-mail via their network (although this will not work via Wi-fi).0
