When a recipe calls for lemon or lime juice, before juicing them I grate the zest into a box I keep in the freezer then I can just crumble some into any recipe that needs some. (can also mix the lemon zest with breadcrumbs for coating chicken nuggets etc)

I regularly shop at the same ASDA and, inevitably, I get the occasional overcharge. These things happen and they are always sorted out by the ladies on the customer service desk. Last Christmas, I had to complain in writing and got my money back in the form of a cash card, and I have been getting all my overcharges added to this. So, this coming Christmas, I shall see how much is on the card and spend it - maybe on a little treat for me?

Sorry in advance, these are pretty obvious, if I'm cooking a casserole/stew, I also have to cook spuds and veg seperate (laaaarge family with big appetites!) I've bought a steamer with three inserts, this way I only use one gas ring. Also, when frying anything (sausages, bacon, onions etc), I never use oil, just dry fry on a low heat, sometimes need to add a little water but it works. Also, when washing duvet covers, sheets etc, I hang them over my banister at night, they are dry in the morning (and I NEVER have the heating on at night). Only little things, but every little helps, right? This thread is brilliant, would never have thought of half of it. Thanks folks.

we use the same for our dog he loves it,he used to eat bakers complete, but he got bored with it,he's never got fed up of this in 2 years and he's thriving, full of energy, with sparkling teeth & a shiny coat.We pay about £7.50 for a huge bag and it lasts him for ages. The same size in bakers costs about 3 times that

just wanted to come back and update the price of the Dr Johns gold dry dogfood as we went to buy some more yesterday and price had gone up to £8.99 a 15kg bag, still a really good price though

When my little monsters started getting bigger & constantly wearing jeans & hoodies,we soon run out of room on the two conventional airers we have. I invested in one of those gizmos that are supposed to hang in the kitchen & look pretty with bunches of herbs & flowers dangling from them:p

Anyhoo, it is above the stairwell & the cord ties around the bannister on the landing. The clothes dry beautifully up there & are relatively out of the way, leaving more floor space around the home.

was in tesco the other day and noticed that tesco tinned Wild Pacific Pink Salmon 212g cost 75p while the 418g cost only 80p, so you get more than twice as much for only 5p more :) I bought a few tins to stockpile in case it was a mistake

just realised this shoulda been in bargains really :o

With the price of tuna now, a 418g tin of pink salmon would work out as cheap, and I do always make up 2 tins of tuna at a time. I've also noticed an awful lot of bogof or 1/2 price offers on red salmon.

I do have quite a bit of breadcrumbs building up in the freezer as when bread is going/gone stale, it gets grated into crumbs (by me, not my mum! haha)...

My husband often needs technical books for his work, which he gets from Amazon. If the book he wants is under the amount you have to spend to get the free delivery, I add an item from my ongoing "wish list" so that I get a little treat, and we don't pay for delivery.

I always have a stash of breadcrumbs in the freezer because I hate throwing away crusts, but I don't tend to eat breadcrumbed fried food very often, so I wasn't really sure what I was saving them for! However, for once the OH surprised me with a frugal recipe of his own! It's a modified cassoulet, just brown off some decent sausages with with onions and carrots; add a tin of cannelini beans (or even baked beans in sauce if you're being really frugal!) and a tin of tomatoes (I whizz them in the blender first). Add a big handful of breadcrumbs and stir them in. Simmer on a medium heat for 20 minutes, then stir in another handful of crumbs - they should get absorbed into the sauce and make it really thick and hearty. Serve with salad.
