Hi
I read this thread when it first started and have used some of the fab tips! Must re-read it again when I got an hour spare lol!
I don't know if its already been mentioned but I use a water filter as I live in a very hard water area. I got a Brita one that uses the maxtra cartridges. I buy the cartridges from the local market for £2.50 each. Anyway as its only me & DS I extend the life of the cartridges by 2 weeks to make them last longer as we wouldn't use it as much as the average family (I did try another month but that was too long).

For those of you who can't do without tumble drying, put a clean dry towel in with your drying load to cut down on drying times as the dry towel help absorb the moisture from the wet items.

Rather than squeeze the last of the toothpaste/cleanser/moisteriser or anything else in tubes, cut the end of the tube and then you have about another 3 or 4 days left to use

If I find "cheap" but nice looking dog food, such as "chunks in jelly/gravy" from Mr A L Dee's new emporium the dog adores me, but due to the added F*rt Powder that seems to be an obligatory ingredient in it, I don't like the dog nearly as much as I should

The rural solution - go to the local Farmer's supply shop/warehouse - you can buy anything from fencing and gates for an entire estate to a packet of pegs, heaven! - and get a certain dog food. I don't know if I'm allowed to say which one, but I'll risk it! Dr John's Working Dog Gold, or words to that effect. It took about 3 days for the aforementioned pampered hound to realise that he wasn't getting anything else and now he's as happy as can be with it. The food is a complete biscuit [I have no connections to the company:rotfl: ] and is VAT free, since it's for working dogs. My dog is both my guard dog and my companion, he keeps the chickens safe from the fox, sees off the crows and magpies [mostly  ] so that's "working" in my book:D
we use the same for our dog he loves it,he used to eat bakers complete, but he got bored with it,he's never got fed up of this in 2 years and he's thriving, full of energy, with sparkling teeth & a shiny coat.We pay about £7.50 for a huge bag and it lasts him for ages. The same size in bakers costs about 3 times that :eek:0 -
Sorry if this sounds obvious but see how other people do things. You often find they may do things [often quite simple] that are moneysaving but simply haven't occurred to you. I sat and watched my Mum slice up some spare lemons and limes the other evening which she then froze. Might be obvious to some but hadn't never really thought about it. However, from this I chopped up all my onions and peppers and open froze them [far too lazy to blanch anything I'm afraid] and this saved them from being composted prior to my 2 week holiday. I went on to do the same thing with peppers last week when they were on offer in Mr T
The other thing that springs to mind is that if you have like minded friends/family in your circle who are local share info about offers that may be relevant [I'm not suggesting you bang on endlessly and bore everyone to tears] but I do this with my friend at work who has a similar slim budget. Between us we have saved each other quite a lot as we've both spotted offers in the town that the other has missed which are items we would buy anyway.

I've just done this with a tube of handcream I was about to throw away as empty and was amazed that there was actually another weeks worth in the tube!:money: I've cut the end off and stood it upside down in a small dish and its all collecting in the bottom!:T
I have always added water to the end of shampoo and shower gels to get the last bits out!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
We can only get hot water if we also have the central heating on so I have to make sure all of the radiators are switched off manually if I want water when the weather is hot.
So I bought one of those solar showers you get to take camping today from Netto for £2.99.
You fill the bag with up to 20 litres (5 gallons) of water, leave it in the sun and after about 3 hours you have hot water which can be up to 58 degrees.
I am going to leave it out in the sun tomorrow (hoping that we get some) and bring it in and fill the washing up bowl with it.0 -

I've just bought one of these with a view to actually using it while camping, but the OH isn't convinced. We'll see!0 -

Well I bought ours for our 9 year old to use in the back garden over the school hols. We won quite a large tent on ebay and I am not really the camping kind, so it is going to go up in the back garden and my DH and DD are going to camp in it for a couple of nights.
I tried it tonight and nearly drowned the dog! Was surprised how quickly the water flows out of it.0
