Sneaky ways to save the pennies

I do this regularly with bath towels. I have trained DH and DD to keep and reuse their shower/bath towel for at least a week but DS is quite un-trainable (young male, opinionated and quite finicky!). He uses a fresh towel every time he has a bath or shower and then puts them on the radiator in the bathroom. As soon as they are dry I fold them and put them back in the towel cupboard!
I have a friend who bought all her children a knee-length towelling bath-robe each (they all got different colours too) - they put those on after a bath/shower and by the time they'd cleaned their teeth or whatever, they were dry. They then hung the robes on the back of their bedroom doors or the bathroom door, where it dried before its next use. You're clean getting out of the shower, so it's not like they needed washing very often anyway.
It seems like a very good idea to me, but I haven't been able to source decent towelling robes in children's sizes that don't cost a fortune.0 -

Me too - I think I'm giving the Universe plenty of hints to help me out - must be due for a "biggie" by now!
Yet more food picked up in the week - a green pepper this time. Thinking about it - the Universe has obviously got me weighed up as a healthy eater - as the food I come across is always fruit and vegetables - apart from a pack of cheese once and a can of lager recently. I've never come across "junk" food - so I think I must have put in a pretty "specific" request...:D

Just wanted to say...
I have been reading this wonderful thread for two days now.
Have 'burny' eyes, a backlog of chores but loads of inspiration.
Am only up to p.74!!
I'm sure I have hints to add but gone blank on the spot.
Will keep 'back of envelope notepad' close and jot down anything that comes to mind to post later.

I've been doing this recently :rotfl: My washing machine is broken, and unless some unexpected money comes my way I won't be replacing it until Easter (Putting every little bit of savings into a separate account until I have enough to buy a decent one!)! Fortunately I have "borrowed" my late nans clothes spinner from my mum so I can spin the stuff almost dry and then I will sling the stuff in the tumble drier - but only because we have enough of a damp problem without damp clothes hanging around! I've also made DD (and myself) juggle our bedding around - we both have quilts & I always put 2 pillowcases on pillows (incase of snotty noses
) so this week when we changed the beds we swapped the pillowcases over so the inner one became the outter one, flipped the quilt over so the other side is against us, and just put clean sheets on
The quilts are still reasonably clean, and I know nothing has been spilt on them as we also have blankets over the top to save putting the heating on (more hand-me-downs from my nan/mum :money: ). Although once I buy my new machine I WILL be washing all the blankets etc through!
I use both a top and bottom sheet - it keeps you warmer, and the top sheet goes to the bottom after a week and the duvet cover stays clean longerClutter free wannabee 2021 /52 bags to cs. /2021 'stuff' out of the placeYOU CANNOT BE ALL THE GOOD THAT THE WORLD NEEDS, BUT THE WORLD NEEDS ALL THE GOOD YOU CAN BEtaken from Shelbizleee on YouTube - her copyright0 -

undies only ever do 1 day,but as a child we had to wear our navy school knickers for a whole week....yeuk yeuk yeuk(my cousins also had to wear them to bed as they had no nighties!!!!!) and you try telling kids of today!!!!
OMG - I had forgotten that! I had to wear my navy blue knicks for a week, there was 1 (cold) tap in the house, no bathroom and an outside toilet, 1 coal fire in the living room and the rest of the house was FREEZING. Dad grew vegetables and raised rabbits for the pot, Mum baked, cooked from scratch and we had things like 'bell will ring casserole' which was mainly veggie casserole flavoured with meat and if you got a lump of meat in your portion the bell will ring (I think actually that Mum gave Dad most of the meat - he needed it, he was working 12 hour shifts doing a manual job). Not so much the good old days as just the old days0 -
We had to wear navy blue knickers for school but we were supposed to wear a white pair under them. Not sure if that was for hygeine reasons or the headmistress thought that two pairs of knickers would protect our virtue! When we had gym we just wore the navy knickers and an aertex shirt-it was a girls school.0

hi everyone, read up to page 50, wil read the rest, but one money saving idea i haven't seen yet which is what i do most nights, both me and hubby go bed at the same time, he always gets in bed before me saying i faff about getting ready, so when i get in he's all nice and warm - free instant bed warmer, better and cheaper than electric blankets and hot water bottles! right now back to page 51 .......................................Loving life to the full, just need purse full too

I use a top sheet on my bed but not on DD's (simply as I haven't any and the king-sized ones I have on my bed would swamp her single bed. They are on my to-buy soon list though). Unfortunately my sheets are always messy by the end of the week, whether its from things being dumped on them (shoes, baskets of stuff etc) and leaving marks or fluff/hairs etc from my clothing. I just can't bring myself to use the top sheet as a bottom sheet when I see them. Don't know why, I just can't

And he has flossed his under carriage with that towel and the next person wipes their face and hands on it... no thank you. Or is he the one that will re use that same towel?
I go by the fact that we are family and we share all the same germs  - he is quite clean and particular about his personal hygiene really so I am not too worried. Also it is very likely that he will re-use that towel because the rest of us keep our towels hanging on our own bedroom doors and use them for a week each at least! But if I had to use his towel I would not be too fussed quite honestly anway, not squeamish of my son! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
