Just wondering, has anyone any idea for a 'recipe' for everyday shower screen cleaner please? At the moment I use Tesco or Sainsbury's and I don't like giving them my money, when I might be able to concoct my own! I also find that the Sainsbury's one isn't good for my chesticles (being asthmatic).

I have stopped using those sprays altogether after I've decided not to tolerate the horrible fumes anymore (I'm asthmatic too)

I now use a damp microfibre cloth to wipe down the shower screens after each shower and it works a treat! no more buying sprays, choking fumes or empty bottles to send out for recycling and best of all, no more chemicals dripping into the bath for my cats to pick up on their paws!

a while ago, Tesco was selling these round microfibre cloth-covered sponges at 2 or 3 for £1, I stitched on a little ribbon loop (snipped off the inside shoulders of tops of course :D ) and it hangs on a little suction hook on my shower screen, ready for the wipedown after each shower. I've even trained my dh to do it! :p

I also use cotton wool and water during nappy changes...
My baby is 6 months old now and although everyone told me that I wouldn't be able to do it as wipes are more convenient- I am!!!
I only use wipes when I go out and am on my 3rd packet... Compared to my 4th packet of cotton wool.
    1x Cotton Wool = 76p
    1x Baby Wipes = £2.99

As long as I have a bowl of water with cotton wool in it, at the ready then I actually find fumbling around with a wipes packet more inconvenient!!!

How about using re-usable wipes? I used these with my daughter, like a small soft flannel, very cheap to buy too and should last till they are out of nappies. I have a little man due in august so will be using these again ;)

Wow - made it to the end, and have to admit being naturally "tight" and having a Mum who was the youngest of 9 with a Dad who lost part of his leg at work and couldn't work (but still wanted his daily bottle of beer) to learn from, many of the older ones I do, though one or two others to consider. Though I draw the line at sitting in blankets+fleeces+hats.
Jackie - I also find the HM bread inthe BM does last a lot longer before going off, and as already said you can cut in half and freeze half. I purposely only make the Large, rather than extra large loaves, as always trying to cut the calories down, a sandwich is two slices whichever, but smaller slices.
As for the shower cleaning, well Aldi do a clear spray and leave, though it may also get the asthma, but we tend to use a squeegy thingy got from Wilko . It swipes the water off and then we (or sorry DH as he always follows me into the shower) just wipes the bottom edge with the microfibre cloth. Yes I know he spoils me.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • For the shower, I just use a little drop of my cheap bubble bath/ shower gel on a net scrubby when I'm finished, but still in the shower. it has become so much a habit that now I can't have a shower without doing my shower screen and tiles.
Talking about the shower and saving money, I always wash my bra in the shower, it saves the shape and the wires in the bra, thereby making them last longer.

Ooh very cunning, the bras i wear are from La Senza and are all handwash only.

I buy mine from poundland, the mr muscle stuff!

I too only buy Mr Muscle, but I always alway pour half of it into an empty sprayer and top each up with water, that way I get two and it last twice as long, Mr Muscle is soo strong anyway.

Sorry but Vingear doesn't work for me, the house stinks and it doesn't clean particularly well.

Posted this in another OS thread but thought I'd post it here too. Sainsbury's are giving out vouchers for a free pint of milk (1% fat) today. The voucher is valid until the end of the month. This was in Edinburgh but was assured it was across the Sainsbury's chain. I picked up mine, a few more pennies shaved off the grocery bill.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

I would at least give it a go if i were you. I've not actually tried to freeze my bread(due to a freezer packed full of bargains:D ) However i find my HM bread stays a lot fresher than shop bought stuff. No stale corners etc, my loaves last about 5 days.

It freezes fine as long as its completely cold before you put it in the freezer.

It is wise to slice the bread before you freeze it so you can use individual slices as necessary.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

With regards to vinegar 'stinking' I use the white stuff-just as effective but doesn't smell (hence you can use it as fabric conditioner.)I buy big containers and it really is cheap.
I put a shell in my kettle to stop furring. I only descale around once a year, even though it's very hard water here. I also have one in my steamer (another money saver as I use all 3 tiers at once, and you don't have to 'keep an eye' on it so lazy!)
Our local asda were doing their own pizzas (the ones you choose your own toppings) 10inch for £1 today-notice said it's on all weekend.
I buy asdas sterilising fluid (like milton)for cleaning cups,my sink and work tops. 1 spoon dilutes in 2 litres of water so very economical,69p for 1200 ml.
I have weaned my daughter off cotton wool pads completely by giving her some of my liz earle muslin cloths. I am currently looking out for some cheap ones to cut up and make more,as suggested on here,as I have never made my own.

Great ideas on here-have already put quite a few into action and have started a savings jar to put any obvious savings into.
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
