Sneaky ways to save the pennies

For christmas I bought OH the Moxia USB Cell AA rechargeable batteries -you plug them in to any usb port to recharge. They charge in 5 hours (but often this is less, and my OH uses them for his two XBOX controllers) and they have been long lasting and so far so good. I got mine from John Lewis direct for £10.50 for a pack of two.
Just an idea and saves looking for a separate charger.

ooh that could be really really good for us as it's primarily AA that get used (98% of the time actually) and my computer is almost always on for at least 5 hours a day between my OU course, working a bit from home and home educating my daughter. i could get 4 batteries to start with with the mind to get maybe another set later so we can always have enough batteries charged up for the wii motes :T thanks so much for the recommendation, i'll have a good think on this, it may be just the ticket0 -
Uniross came out best buy in the 'Ethical Consumer', when they looked at them in 2006. This may be of interest to you, if your interested in the ethicl side of companies.

On the subject a of batteries... I needed a car battery and was quoted £78 from the local car parts place for a make I've never heard of. I did some research on the web to find the model numbers of various alternatives.
Here's the sneaky bit, armed with the info I went to a wholesalers on an industrial estate (after looking them up to see what brand they sold). Went in to the reception / office and just asked if they had one in stock. "Yes, what account is it?" was the reply. "Cash actually" my reply. They don't normally do retail but seen as I was there and new exactly what I wanted they did the deal and gave me 25% discount.
So for £60 I got a quality battery. Not bad I thought for a bit research and a bit of cheek.0 -
Not really sneaky but have just taken advantage of the recent offer in a week-end newspaper of £10 off your shopping if you spend more than £50 in Waitrose. Stocked up on some basics which will last to take the bill over the limit, and as they had Seville oranges in stock, bought some, together with grapefruit, lemons, lime and sugar. We'll now be able to make about two years' supply of various varieties of marmalade, effectively for nothing as all the ingredients cost less than £10.0

Thanks for all the advice on the sock problem. I stopped up last night to see if I could discover more. At about 4.20 am I heard a rustling in the pile of dirty washing in the corner of our bed room. At last the mystery is solved.
After talking to the Local Constabulary, I spent a few hours with a police artist..
It looks like he is also responsible for the theft of pens and pencils. They make handy tooth picks for removing the annoying shreds of sock from between it's teeth. The occasional pant loss is also cleared up.0 -

I am getting my sevilles tomorrow so looking forward to the smell of marmalade in the kitchen.I think Waitrose are great for not charging delivery and am only using Mr T now as getting extra 1000 points but once I have them it is back to Waitrose .I know they are thought to be more expensive but if you check out the offers they are sometimes actually cheaper, just wish they were on mysupermarket:mad:
got my student son to use the £10 off offer so he was pleased:T0 -

Car Batteries
Unbelievably - it's chepaer to go to Kwik Fit and get them to fit you a new battery (about £55) than to buy one from Halfords and fit yourself (about £75) - wierd but true. This was for a CORSA0 -
From Tesco's I have bought a box of value tissues for 39p to wipe my nose on as I think a single tissue may be better value than realing off the toilet/kitchen roll. What does everyone else use? Do not say washabe hankies as I do not think they are nice.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0
