    Reverbe,

I read your post before you deleted it. I would like to point out that Edinburghlass and HariboJunkie have never spoken to or met each other in real life, let alone are related to one another. I don't know how you are under the misapprehension that they are related.

As for the rest of your post, it is typical of the vitriol you have shown toward HariboJunkie over the last few months. Despite your protestations to the contrary, Haribo has been very restrained in her responses to your pms and snide comments on the board and as her sister and friend I feel compelled to defend her against your continued attacks.

If, as you claim, you do indeed have HariboJunkie on ignore, may I suggest that you do just that and ignore any comments pertaining to her...I know that Haribo would appreciate it if you do.

Just for the record I am posting here as Haribo's sister and not in my board guide role.

  • Thank you everyone for all these lovely posts. :A

I have had a very stressful couple of days in the real world but it has made me realise what is and isn't important. So I apologise for taking the thread so far off topic and for throwing my toys out of my pram. :o I will return to ignoring things which should be ignored. ;)

When you get post , check the stamp to see if its been franked , if not ,
soak it in some hot water and peel off , then leave it to dry. You can then reuse it on a envelope by sticking it on with a prit stick :o.
    (check your xmas post ;)).

That's effectively theft, and really shouldn't be encouraged

  • As for the tips about stamps - my mother has always done this since I was young and even now I automatically check for franking. It's amazing how many you can save over a year. When I was a student a friend of mine used to rub his stamps with a bar of soap as he said that when it was franked, it could be washed off at the other end and re-used but to me that was a step too far and still is. I don't mind gaining the benefit from a Post Office mistake but...

I think benefitting from a mistake is not particularly an honourable thing to do. I doubt that if a smaller shop gave you too much change we would think it was a good thing to do, however we think it is okay if it is part of some massive 'corporate machine' like tesco or the post office. If something is wrong, it is always going to be wrong, regardless of whose mistake it is.

LOL , so I should tell the old lady that shes a thief then should I ? :rotfl:

I think if the post office want people to buy stamps then they should have a fool proof way of stopping these things happening in the first place , in todays technology , surely its easy to stop this happening.

Every year I get a christmas card from the royal mail ,
who pays for this then ?

I have also had one parcel and 1 xmas card with £10 in it, lost by royal mail in the past , I considered that theft .

I havent used this method myself - yet , (only found out about it a week ago) and it seems alot of people on here already do this .
    Kindness costs nothing :)

    Hi mirry,

Royal Mail are taking steps to stop this:

    Tamper-proof stamps

    Thanks Pink,

funny cos my hubby was just telling me this .

People dont think about it as theft because they see a stamp thats been paid for , but it hasnt been stamped. It looks like it hasnt been used.

They dont consider the full picture , but to label it as deliberate theft seems a bit harsh to me . The elderly lady I see is lovely and crochets/knits blankets for charitys to sell, she gives such alot .
    Kindness costs nothing :)
  • Hi mirry, I didn't want to spark an argument and don't feel I have any right to be dictating to people what to do or not to do, I just hoped that taking it out of that specific situation and comparing it to others might make you think about whether it is something you agree with in principle as well as in specific practice. I know the world is not black and white but if we magnify it from a stamp to climbing over a barrier to get into a festival for free or lying about your age to get a discount in the cinema or wearing a dress then returning it for a refund then you wouldn't say that getting something for free when other people are paying is ethical or fair.

That's my two pence worth, and I shall mention it no more :)

I am saving some money this Christmas (but not calories!) making some fudge at home and giving it as gifts, crazily easy to do, if a little time consuming, and tastes delish!

Yes, age is no excuse for thieving.

Isn't that sad! Since when was something not being protected enough an excuse for stealing it?

The Royal Mail. Once a customer give money to them in exchange for a service the money becomes theirs.

I think you need to look those words up in the dictionary.

Other people doing it does not make it right.

I can see your point and I must say I've never even thought about checking to see if a stamp has been franked but does that mean if you're in Tesco and there's a glitch which meant you got something cheaper would you refuse to buy it because you're benefitting from someone's mistake?

For example there was a glitch on Morrison's offer on pringles, buy 1 get 2 free. If you bought the slighlty smaller tubes the till automatically took the price of 2 larger tubes off. Would it be wrong to buy the smaller tubes and take advantage of the glitch?
