mogchops. I soak the green lentils for a few hours. (they sit on the work surface for ages until I remember!) and cook for 20 mins. I then use the lentils like mince. Usually I fry up mushrooms and onions or/and courgettes or/and peppers/chilli..whatever we have in. I then tip in the cooked lentis and simmer together with herbs and chopped tomatoes or half a jar of bolognese sauce mix and reduce. Do it in a frying pan ifyou have a deep bottomed one. If you add mince dry fry itfor a while and add with the lentils. Make sure the mince cooks through well though. Experiment. Keeps a coupe of days inthe fridge and also freezes. Not an exact science. Use taste and imagination... You can also freezethe cooked lentils and defrost and add to any mince dish you are doing but you won'tbe able to refreeze the lentis then.

Thanks frugalily and shazrobo! I bought red lentils today to see how it goes, and am currently making a savoury mince - not exactly bolognaise, more of a throw-in-everything-&-see-what-happens! Mince, onion, carrot, celery, tin of tomatoes, tom puree, oxo cube & added some lentils. Its looking good, have tasted and yummmm!!!!! Will be back later & let you know what the family think - thats the big test!!

  • Totally changing subject but hey ho..... in our bathroom we have a china toilet brush holder = part of a bathroom set but brush was looking BAD!!!
Went to Wilkos today on my mum's advice and bought one in a plastic holder for 50pence. Replaced in my posh china holder and it is perfect - really pleased at such a bargain and at that price can replace very regularly.
