Wonder if you melted your marg pots?
I no longer have a dishwasher, as it was part of the f&f of the last house. But there is only DS and I now, so I just wash up as and when I walk into the kitchen and think,,,mmmm DS has been snacking again!

I spent yesterday sewing a draught excluder for the dinning room. Used two sleeves from a shirt (body used to make cushion cover), and cut up old stockings and pop socks!. One draft down, many many more to go though!.

This may be useful to people with drafts. When we were young my mum used the balls from our bean bag that we kept bursting to make draft excluders. She would sew sleeves etc add some tights etc for the middle (think sausage roll)then pack round it with the little balls.

I've seen bags of the balls going cheap and also old bean bags in charity shops so could be done very MS a bag would probably do a full house. They were great but i think they had to be hand washed.

now theres the spirit mooloo! sounds like you're well on your way to a warmer house this winter!

i've been eyeballing a few old things to cut up for use in various winter items myself. my daughter was given a rather dreadful pink fleece sleeping bag thing only it's too small for her. i ripped out the zipper (saved it of course!) and unstitched it to make it into a picnic blanket. however i think it would make really nice rice pillows/lap warmers for winter so i shall be using part of it for that and perhaps the rest for draught excluders.

she also has a glitter kitty long sleeved tshirt that she loves but it's soooo tight now i have to help her in and out of it  (does this remind any of us of jeans we wore in our younger days? :p) so, i thought i might cut the arms off and either transform it into some sort of bag or perhaps a pillow for her.

she also has some jeans with gorgeous embroidery on them that is a shame to loose. however the knee in one is ripped all the way across and i woudln't give that away it's in such bad shape. it's ok for her to wear now but come winter it won't be warm enough so i'd considered making the leg into a draught excluder but i don't think it's long enough so more than likely the jeans will become a bag and the glitter kitty t will become the pillow. i'll probably keep the jean legs and maybe work the them together to make another pillow cover.... hmmmmmm

last night i started hand sewing (wish i had a sewing machine!) a patchwork quilt using fabric samples i've collected. the wee one is absolutely amazed at the concept so i shall have her help me with it. i'm not sure i have enough fabric to make a good size quilt so it may become pillows or a lapwarmer etc but basically sewing it makes me feel less guilty about sitting on my bum watching telly :rotfl:

i have an old dressing gown of hers that she is fast outgrowing too, not in good enough shape to give away so i think i may use it as stuffing for one of the pillows i plan to make.

Its a very slow way, but keeps me occupied.

If you dont like the colour of things, you could put a selection in the washingmachine with a dye you do lik:o, this will co ordinate them as well.!

I have used Barley in heat pads before now.

Alternatively you could cut out the kitty, and applique it onto a plain Tshirt that does fit!

You could patch the leg, from behind the tear, for wearing around now.
Alternatively, you could cut off at the knee, unpick the leg seams and turn into a skirt.
Sew the cut off legs together to make a draught excluder. You could always add spare fabric either end, as a trim to make as wide as your door.

I made a complete bedspread over about 10years!! sewing by hand 21/2" hexagons made up of old fabrics from everything from my grannies old dresses to my school uniforms. I started it when I was 13 at school, thats why it took so long, as I hardlytouched it when I was a bit older!

i have an old dressing gown of hers that she is fast outgrowing too, not in good enough shape to give away so i think i may use it as stuffing for one of the pillows i plan to make.

    :T:T:T

How do people edit thngs on here, it just said my reply was too short, does that mean all the inserts I did have not worked???

My Paper log maker has arrived! Yipee. I can now spend the afternoon tearing up bits of paper and soaking them in the bucket I have put to one side for this. Wellits a small dustbin with a lid, so its now beside the main bin in the kitchen. As its only DS and I here, hopefully ALL spare paper/card will now be recycled!!! Two good things!!

haven't used paper as logs, does it work well? Or do they clog up the fire with ash? We burn lots of paper in the winter, but not as logs, and it tends to create a lot of ash doing it that way.

Also, how/where do you intend to dry the logs as my OH raised that as an objection when I suggested getting a log maker might be a good idea
