just bought some of these tea bags to try and they are fab!!!! 19p for 50... made by Unilever, a well-known brand, who also make Lipton's tea (the yellow label stuff you always get served on holiday!!!). compared with tetley / pg tips, etc., which are about 90p for 40, this is quite a saving and the taste really is good... has anyone else tried these? they were in Home Bargains btw....

haven't used paper as logs, does it work well? Or do they clog up the fire with ash? We burn lots of paper in the winter, but not as logs, and it tends to create a lot of ash doing it that way.

Also, how/where do you intend to dry the logs as my OH raised that as an objection when I suggested getting a log maker might be a good idea

I will have to keep you posted. Having not use them, just read about them.
I will be drying them out in the greenhouse. Then storing them in the shed in a tub out there. I will mix them with sticks and logs, I suppose. But I am going by tips and hint found on here.
    :D

Greenhouse sounds a good idea. Let me know how you get on with the paper 'logs'. If they work well and don't clog up the fire I might even invest in one!

Will do. Currently got a bucket of torn up paper and cardboard soaking in the kitchen. I think the secret is to get it to be "papermache" or pulp, before forming into the bricks, as the denser it is the longer it will take to burn. l think thats it anyway.

Now I am off to shut the windows upstairs, so its not cold when I go to bed. Then look for somethingelse to make while I am in the mood.

50 miles is a bit far to go to get a cup of cheap tea!
  • buy in bulk, then, and make it worth your while.... i suppose i'm lucky having one store less than a mile away and another less than three... they do have 170 stores in the uk, though, so it's going to be a worthwhile tip to plenty of people....

Well what I typed is there, it just isnt in the colour I typed it in!!:o

i think it's because somehow you managed to get your quote INSIDE mine vs outside and seperate so it seems to think it's mine..

    good ideas, thank you!

actually i had a good idea for the two trouser legs, i'm going to make it dead easy to sew them together by simply sewing them discreetly and neatly but on the outside (vs trying to hide the seam inside) then deliberately fraying the edges as denim does nicely leaving a little fringe all the way around the pillow. then one side of the pillow will have the lovely embroidery and the other won't but it will be dead easy to sew

i may just take your glitter kitty idea on board though, it's got to be easier than what i was thinking! having to sew by hand changes my perspective about certain projects i must say!

My Paper log maker has arrived! Yipee. I can now spend the afternoon tearing up bits of paper and soaking them in the bucket I have put to one side for this. Wellits a small dustbin with a lid, so its now beside the main bin in the kitchen. As its only DS and I here, hopefully ALL spare paper/card will now be recycled!!! Two good things!!

ooh congrats on getting your new 'toy'! did you get the dry or the wet log maker? please let us know how you get on, i'm actually a bit envious! here's hoping my next house has a working fireplace, if it does i may be asking for tips from you this time!

Confuzzled, have you looked around on freecycle, for a sewing machine.? Or look in some of the charity shops, some will not sell electric but some do.
I am lucky I have several sewing machines, from when I had my business. I used to have one set up with white thread at all times, and often used to move from one machine to the other to make things, so that I didnt have to keep changing the machine settings. But that was years ago.
I have even got a hand machine, encase there was a powercut when I was in the middle of an order. mmm Wonder if its serviceable?
I did lend out one or two machines over the years but I never got them back.!
I have been thinking about teaching, so would need to get them serviced, or have some second hand machines ready for my "pupils" or is that students???
