But if you are tempted to do the same thing with a jar of Rowse honey.... think twice !!!

Even minus the metal lid - the label on the jar is metal and so sparks fly about inside your microwave :eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Ooo - purdy! :rotfl:
Yep, been there, done that too. :D How do you think I got to be so wise - not!
I am now in the habit of standing things like nearly-empty ketchup bottles upside down in the cupboard, but I can see that being more interesting than helpful with honey! Perhaps stand in a pan of warm water for a few minutes to make the honey flow? The jar, I mean, not you... By the way if honey goes grainy it's easily rescued by warming it, there's nothing at all wrong with the honey, the granular form is just needing to draw in a minute amount of water from the atmosphere.
Off to inspect my cupboards for things accidentally left right way up. :)

  • :T :T Thank you to all who replied to my waffling.I am sure when I get the hang of this computer I will be able to take advantage of this fantastic site. I keep reading tips but always loose them next time I want to carry on, there are so many pages to look at I'm easily distracted :o I was actually joking about the road kill Iwas just so fed up! sorry if I offended anyone. My other half has an air rifle but I am toooooo scared to pluck and clean.Another money saving tip if hubby has any whisky bottle tins from xmas pressies save and use to store spaghetti, round biscuits (digestives) etc.
  • I love the smell of fabric softener but find it doesn't last long once the clothes have been through the tumble drier and the Bounce sheets are just too expensive.

So I put a few drops of my favourite softener on a clean dry piece of cloth (an old flannel is great) and chuck it into the drier with the wet washing. It really works - kills static and leaves washing soft and fragrant.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Hi again!
Have you discovered 'thread tools' which is at the top of the page when you are reading a thread? If you find a thread with good tips, etc., click on Thread Tools and in it you will find 'Subscribe to thread', so click on that & follow intructions. The thread will then be stored under 'User CP' (on the same menu bar) so you can find it whenever you like.
Only beware - I have 77 subscriptions right now despite unsubbing from some! :D
Re: road kill - LOL! I rarey eat meat but wasn't offended. :) However, I have heard that road kill can have hidden dangers so I'd suggest if anyone is going to try it, they research as much as possible first and go carefully!

  • thankyou nannaC,I feel right at home already as I love to save money & I always try to make do with what we have.

I just wanted to add something very important,Im sure it goes without saying but the playdough & saltdough must not be eaten by child or animal because the high salt content is toxic,I've found the homemade stuff doesnt go all bitty like the shop bought stuff, but please be careful of the pets with little bits that can get dropped on the floor.
I caught my pup swipping a saltdough mask my 6 yr old made,it wasnt even on the floor.
Also I have drummed it in to my boys that it does smell nice but they cannot eat it.

I was scared to pluck and clean too...but it`s easy and not at all horrible. At least you know where it`s from and more or less the good life it`s lead. I`ts FREE too. That soon made me do it ;)
The Grass may look greener :o but it`s always going to take just as much mowing ;)
  • If you're worried about plucking chickens etc then skinning them like you would skin a rabbit is easier. I did with a brace of pheasants I was given a while ago. Saves a lot of trouble!

If someone would like instructions there are plenty of sites dealing with this. I shan't put links as it may offend someone.
If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!! :D
  • I was going to do links too but was also worried about causing offence. However there are a lot of very good sites out there and Hugh fearnley Whittingstall has a very good method for skinning plucking etc and also very good money saving natural receipes

    with pleasure :D

this recipe is no cook, easy peasy, the measurments are cups,my glass jug from the 99p shop has cups on the side, but I think any cup will do.

    half cup salt
    1 cup plain flour
    1tablespoon cream of tar tar
1 tablespoon oil(you can use any I use baby oil)
1 cup of boiling water from kettle with drop of food colouring of your choice
half teaspoon vanilla essence(not needed but makes it smell yummy)

put dry ingredients in a bowl.add water mix well, when forms into dough will be cool enough to to knead for a bit, kids love this bit, then hey presto, playdough.
mine was sooooo soft & silky at first,I keep it in tubs in the fridge & its going more firmer its miles & miles better than anything I've ever paid good money for & it smells great.

    home made rules!!!
for the saltdough, you will only need salt flour & water.

    Brilliant! Thanks!

only one question. What's cream of tartar???
I live in Holland and have never heard of it!
