    ISOM,

Ouch...I burned myself silly at 17 (a long time ago but the memory is still sharp!) and it's really not funny. I ended up going to bed with soaking wet cotton PJ's and waking up two hours after I fell asleep with them bone dry! I had to resoak before I could sleep. In fact, it's probably only my doing that which saved me from horrendous burns...stupid, stupid child...

Anyway, may I second the Bicarb recommendation and if you have any, I would take some Piriton as well unless it will contradict your other meds.

Hi ISOM, I'm sure you don't want to put anything else on the burny bits at the moment but would recommend lavender oil, sudocreme (miraculous stuff if you ask me) or aloe vera gel.

Anyone tried growing aloe vera? I've only used the shop bought gel but have thought about getting a plant or two as it has so many uses.

Last nights dinner for us left me with a few thoughts Weezl. I made pizza, but had no olive oil (my usual recipe is flour, water, yeast, teaspoon sugar, pinch salt, few tablespoons olive oil). So, I left it out. There was no discernable difference  (only the cost of the oil!)

Led me to wondering how many things we put in recipes, just because we always have, and what the outcome would be if we left them out (if it would work, and how much it would save).

Similar thoughts include your hummus without tahini, my vichysoise without cream, anzac biccies without coconut (like twinks hobnobs really), brownies without chopped nuts....

Wondering now what else I can leave out!

Did you ever go through all the vitamins?

I've never grown aloe myself but whilst living in Australia I used it straight from a plant to help heal a really nasty wound(with hindsight I should have had it stitched up) and it healed really fast, much better than the shop bought stuff.

softstuff, I like your thinking on leaving it out and seeing if you notice, seems an easy experiment and not a lot to lose. As for me I wish I understood the science of food enough to predict the likely consequences of leaving some things out. I understand a few basics, like bread without yeast = bad idea! But I'd love to know whether you could leave out the pine nuts or the cheese in pesto for example (yes I did note your Almonds tip! thanks;))

ISOM, hope you feel better today. Re: 'poor Mr Weezl', I do promise not to do anything which leaves him feeling deprived, and I ask him all the time if it's ok and if he's hungry.:o Relationships are too important to sacrifice.:D

Ceridwen, great linkies as ever, and thanks for the thumbs up on the index!

And just my weensy thought for the day. I've been pondering this quantity thing again and am thinking weezl that thee and me may not be quite such "oinkers" as we think. It could be that you - like me - dont tend to do snacks. I think possibly some of the people that have these smaller portions at mealtimes are having the same amount of food as us in total - but some of it is in the form of snacks. Just my thought.

I rarely eat anything between meals other than fresh fruit. Crisps, biscuits, cakes, chocolate are distinct rarities in my life. I prefer to fill my stomach at meal times - and tend to think its probably cheaper to do that as well.

Having said that - for those people who do have snacks - I think it would be useful to have a snacks section in your blog.

Good morning Weezl and all her trusty followers, I was thinking about using suflowerseeds instead of pinenuts in the pesto, not sure when I'll make it but will let you know how that works.

\dont worry Mr Weezl I know Mr Weezl is happy, healthy & loved! "Poor Mr Weezl" just does it for me in encapsulating him supporting you in your mad cap ideas (& the latest one is umm...tight on the budget?!!) ... as C said a while ago - a great match!! Have a good day all. Off to work but may see if I can take the afternoon off depending on what time meeting finishes cos the sun is shining and there be a plot to dig, flowers to plant & I'm on call tonight...! (Mind you will have suntan lotion on this time!!)
