Wow! What a thread! Have read it in chunks over 3 days, writing down recipies to try along the way. First one im gonna attempt to Mrs M's bagels - my son loves bagels, especially plain ones but they only had food doctor seeded ones in Mr T's so im going to try the bagel recipie minus the poppy seeds and onion and see how I go. Does anyone know if you can freeze them and if they are ok afterwards?MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Evenin' all!
Just had the spicy couscous, very nice and so easy to make, thanx.
The general verdict her was good but cancel the sultanas next time and DH won't e ven touch it so had to cook him something else .
Might tweak the recipe a bit next time when I know what I'm doing.

hiya germish,
glad it generally went down well, how interesting the sultanas weren't a hit, with a lot of your recipes I've noticed dried fruits featuring a fair bit!?
Ceridwen, I'm ok thanks, how're you? I was just doing a bit of research on Biotin (vitamin B7 or H). Getting a bit frustrated cos the USDA food database website is down today, and it's so useful for all my research:rolleyes:. Will post where I get to anyway!:D
hot tip for the evening, just noticed that dried onions are down to 9p per 40g packet at asda:money:, a really healthy thing to chuck in chilli, bolognese, shepherless pie, pasta sauce, Mrs M's bagels...curry... And no crying or chopping up required!
love Weezl x

Hi Weezl
I'm still wishing there were more hours in a day - lots more!
Good to hear you're well.
One eensy query from me - well to anyone really who can answer:
Was doing some shopping today and replenished my supplies of Spicy SeasonAll or Cajun Blend or similar and thinking - "that is expensive for an ounce or so of flavouring". I get most of my herbs/spices loose for 30p/40p odd - but they dont do the "mixes". Am wondering if anyone knows a "recipe" for a suitable spicy-type blend for my spicy baked potato wedges. A "recipe" for curry paste and passata would also be useful.:D0 -

I think I meant more like, what vitamins do we need in what quantities and how do you get them on your budget.
Ah! Right-ho, will do! Well, every day I have 4 slices of wholemeal bread (2 for brekkie, 2 for lunch) vitamin - wise, this yields a hefty:
Vitamin C
6.54%
68.91%
22.00%
47.74%
40.54%
57.69%
106.29%
0.00%
0.00%
14.58%
112.54%
And all that before you've even spread anything onto it! :T
You're nearly half way there for most of the vitamins, and above what you need (percentages are of what is needed daily for an adult woman) in vitamin B9 and pro-vitamin A.
I'll go calculate another of my staples and get back to you!

Hi ceridwen
This is the recipe im going to try next time i do the cajun chicken tortilla wraps... We have just had them for dinner -but i was using the last of some ready made "whoopsed" ones,
But i really want to make my own -and with the number of herbs and spices i have -it makes much more sense
