SOrry mate yes i did try but it wouldn't connect to anything apart from the virgin media activation webpage
Just checking, I admit I'm stumped, but then again I don't consider myself an expert!
Thinking back, I think the installation engineer activated the connection using his phone,(the way the modem lights flashed changed sequence).
When you're on the activation page, what happens when you type www.google.co.uk into the address bar?Move along, nothing to see.0 -
It just doesn't connect mate. i need to register and activate 1st but i can't with 98. oh well i'll have to borrow one i think0

Once your account's registered and activated you'll be able to use Windows 98.
When I suggested Linux before, I didn't realise the situation.

If same connection, old question, have you turned off modem, connected Win98 pc, waited say 1 minute then rebooted modem?
Needs to do this to re-assign new address.
gonna try that now.
EDIT. oh my god it worked many many thanks to you. if you're ever in Peterborough pm me and i'll buy you a drink.0 -
Well done mate, now check the Windows updates (still available , but no longer updated).
1. Install OPERA -light modern browser, works on most sites.
2. Install AVG Free
3. Install Zone Alarm 6.1.744.001 - the last one that works with Win98.
I use the above on my old 98 machine with no problems also Foxit for reading pdf pages, much, much better than the bloated Adobe.Move along, nothing to see.0
