Oooh, don't you need a copy for your records? I know I would like to keep something like that to show that nothing was owed etc.... or ask him for a reference stating that you pay rent on time, every time for your new landlord....that could find a way anywhere...0
-
it would be obvious it was us, he works with my parter (for the same company) and when they are at work he acts like he doesnt even know my other half. let alone take money from him every week.0

must say i have to agree with nelly on this one just exactly what is your complaint, you think he has been evading tax . well you have been complicit in this by carrying on paying him, do you have some personal vendeta because he doesn't speak to your partner at work or are you intending to use it as blackmail aginst him to get a deposit back or something more sinister or are you just jealous that he is earning some money cash free.
Or maybe as a legitimate reason do you, want to prove the rent you have paid.
the rent book is your proof that you have paid rent and you can do what you want to it copy it burn it or even... you know the rest.
Its all well and good shopping him to HMRC now, but you didn't have the guts to do it months ago because it might have left you homeless.0 -
Nelly - IMO that is so over the top offensive and unnecessary. Stuff like that should not be appearing on these boards.0

i think you are going a bit far with the insults, all i really originally wanted to know was IS MY RENT BOOK MINE OR DO I HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK
sorry if i am not as clever as you oh mighty one, if you could understand what you were reading you wouldnt get confused ok.0 -
Did you buy the rent book? If not, then it is not your rent book.
The LL may need it as proof of income for tax purposes. You have no use for it.
There was two cannibals eating a clown. One says to the other "Does this taste funny to you?"

Failed. And something does not have to be criminal to be wrong, just so very wrong.0 -
You cannot please all of the people all of the time. We all find different things funny. It's best to live and let live.

I have to admit that I'm no detective, but how do you know?they live upstairs and there are lots of other bits and pieces i know of, and thats prob why he is asking for my book back when we move
The rent book goes with the property, surely? If not, then it's the LL's proof that you've paid the rent.
If you suspect him of tax evasion, you don't need any proof of any description. You simply "shop him" and let the tax man do all the investigating.
Forget it.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
