Becoming a taxi driver to pay off all my debts and avoid bankruptcy, my diary

You're doing great.
It's good to get your name down on every list you can because you never know where the work will come from and sometimes it comes from the most unlikely of places.
Once you've done the rounds and got your name down, is there any mileage in you contacting chauffeur-driven car/wedding car companies offering to do "last minute/sick cover driving" for them (in their limo)?
Everybody you speak to from now on is somebody who might know somebody... so get yourself some business cards to hand out. You can get some free or cheap online and it's easier to whip out a card than to scribble your name on the corner of a beer mat.
For a car, I would have suggested Police Car auctions. Ex police cars are well maintained and I've heard are a good bet.
Good luck!0 -
Bit of an up and down day really.
Started off well when the car finance company rang me to say they would halve the payments for the next 6 months while I am getting back on my feet WITHOUT me signing a new agreement or refinancing. They would just extend the loan by the shortfall so should only be an extra 3 months at the normal rate.
Went to bank to take ID and update address so I could try and get payments halved on loan for next 6 months. Again, no problem when I was in the branch, updated the system there and then and told me to ring loansdirect(lloydstsb) when i got home to sort it out then.
What a polava (have I spelt that right). Loans direct couldn't find my account details, said it was because I no longer had a current account with LLoydsTSB, passed me to customer care, same story, passed me to collections, same story, said they would put me through to the branch and conveniently put me through to the RAC!!!!! :wall: :wall: So they knew I was on the verge of a bloody breakdown:rotfl: :rotfl:
Got that peed off being passed from pillar to post i Will just go in and see the branch tomorrow and refuse to move til they sort it out.
New light turned up for my van as the old one was smashed, want to make sure it looks ok for the auctions so I get a better price, fitted that this afternoon, other than that not too much to report.
Will update tomorrow with the letter I get from the Car HP, wanted them to put it in writing to make sure they aren't having me over.
Pastures thanks for the advice. I will give the limo/chauffeur thing a miss as I am on hols a week this coming Monday so hopefully the CRB will be back then and I can concentrate on the regular work. thanks for the suggestion though.
KL66, HMRC are right !!!!!! aren't they (great word learned on here:D ) They say they overpaid me to the tune of £700 or so too and want it repaying in full, haven't had tax credits for 2 years or so
Also gonna be a pain in the proverbial trying to claim it this time as it goes on last years earnings, my business turned over £800k:rotfl: :rotfl: .
Does anyone know where I stand with this as my OH doesn't work yet so i am the only income, can they apply commonsense and base it on this years (projected) earnings?
Rant over, time for a coffee.0 -
Hi-the tax credit people will base your award on projected earnings-this happened to me last year-had to claim as separated last sept-earning less than originally declared-was able to give estimate and award increased.Hope this helps-just give t/credits a ring!!!!0

Hi ITBS.....
One day up, one day down, same s**t different day eh ?
With regard to the Tax credit issue, have a look at this forum, http://familytaxcredit.forumco.com/ and post your query. They have a Tax Credit adviser who is trained to sort out Tax Credit mess....hence the title of the organisation, Tax Credit Casualties. If Paula can't answer your query, then no one can. Its worth getting some expert advice on this, as you don't want to find even more debt added by way of more overpayment.
Keep at it, your tenacity will pay off in the end. All my best wishes to you and your family.

Bettyanne/KL66 thanks for your advice. I have posted on that forum KL (no flies on me eh:cool: ) same username if you want to pop by and have a look. Hopefully I will get some advice there (OMG feels like adultery going on another site:p )
Really positive start to today, come on here seen all the good vibes. Looked at quidco and found I have had my A+L account query resolved successfully, £50 coming my way, thought I wouldn't be able to get money from car insurance as my post code weren't on the system, but thats tracked too, another £70 to me:j
Persolvo, you said you were thinking of the taxis as a possible career.....any more thoughts on this mate? i have been following your thread but as I had nothing useful to say i just lurked invisibly:p
Off to face the bank today:mad: Wish me luck0 -
HI ITBS,
Well done so far on what you've achieved and please do not get business cards printed with your number on as that would class as an illegal pick up in a private hire as you do not have a personal operators license and would invalidate your insurance!!!
Glad to see you have sorted the car finance out and you are well on the way to disposing of the assetts ...you will get there as you are strong and a grafter....
Tax credits...do not get me started on those barstewards.
Have a good day and good luck for the test tomorrow.0 -
Ha ha, another fan of HMRC Tax Credit office Not !!
Saw your posting on TCC, they really are an incredible group of people, and I know Paula will be able to help with your query. They have asked me to go to Westminster with them to lobby Parliament, apparently my overpayment was one of the largest in the UK, and they want to hold it up as an example of all that is wrong with the system.
I would relish the opportunity of going head to head with Gordon Brown, I hope its televised lolol.
Anyway, congratulations on each step back up the ladder of life, you will soon be at the top. Small, manageable chunks is the best way to tackle it.
Best wishes to you and your family
