im guessing you need to be over 18 as some schools. colleges do a CRB check to make sure you dont have a criminal record which stops you from working with children. perhaps you could ask the examinations officer at your school?

I thought I'd bump this for newbies to take a look at.
There are exams in February and right up to June.
It's perfect for parents with school age to get some extra money :)
  • For those who can't find any invigilator jobs advertised, just get a list of high schools from your council website, then ring every one of them up and ask to speak to the 'examinations coordinator', and tell them you're looking for work as an invigilator. I did this with zero previous experience (other than having been a student at one of the other schools in the borough a few years back), and was offered a place at a local school. Not the most interesting work, but paid well.

It would help if you have a current CRB certificate.

"It would help if you have a current CRB certificate".

Depending on the local authority they may still get their own, I had 2 current CRBs and they still wanted another and it expires every 6 months if I don't work - strange but true.

I start again next Monday :)

I am going to email a few schools/colleges soon to be an invigilator this year.

I am 18 and male though. I really don't know how to word it.

Has anyone got a sample letter I can use, to get some ideas - i would appreciate it alot

    Many many thanks
  • I rang around all the schools in my borough last year, and asked for the details of the examinations coordinator. My initial email went like this:

    Dear Mr So-and-so,

I'm enquiring as to whether you are looking for exam invigilators during the forthcoming 2008 exams. I am quite flexible with my work hours and can be available at short notice.

    Best Regards

One replied asking if I had any experience. My response:

    Hello,

I don't have any previous experience in this field, nor have I worked in other Ealing schools (I am a XXXX by profession), although I was brought up and educated in Ealing schools, studying at XXX XXX High between 1993 and 2000.

Got quite a few shifts during the Summer exams, and have just been emailed a couple of days ago asking to work the forthcoming exams.

    Best of luck

Last summer I had contact with a specialist education/exams recruitment agency about becoming an invigilator.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of that agency! Can anyone help? It was in Birmingham/Midlands......I think.
