  • OK so my breadmaker is now on-Ive added a good measure of dried basil to the ingredients for the pizza dough-I just love Basil.
Remember that if you don't have olive oil for this, you can use ordinary cooking oil.
Also making a trifle costing approx 45p. I did this one last week but spent nearly £1 on the cream to top it-it was a treat. This one will be made as follows:
tin of smartprice fruit cocktail 21p
    smartprice jelly 8p
    a few sponge fingers 5p
a packet of smartprice instant custard 8p
a packet of smartprice strawberry whip(instead of the cream)3p

Going to top the pizza tomorrow with:
    passata
    oregano
    chopped onions
    thinly sliced cheese
    frozen peppers
leftover ham which is a bit on the dry side-left open by the kids!
anything else that takes my fancy!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

Happy to report an NSD for me. I,ve been wondering if I should have a weekly or 4 weekly GC as I get paid 4 weekly. I am just turning chicken because I,ve overspent ? Still I try to look at everything I,m buying and ask myself if I need it? If I,ll use it? Is it worth it? I,ve used something in the region of £70 in Mocs in the last 2 months, I shouldn't have had to spend the money that I have, must have a good think about what I,m doing. I know I,ve cut down on waste dramatically, and not spending at work hardly at all. Is that what you call a double infinitive? Or just the bleatings of a crazed, bloated by sausage casserole, woman. Only another week to go of this challenge , so I,ll stick it out till the end. Hope you all do well.

Any suggestions very much welcomed/ needed.

    Thanks a bunch, Egon

Tomorrow morning I am attending a 'how to write your CV' lecture, I was wondering what to put for mine because I have been a SAHM on and off for some years and wanted to put something but not lie or make it up so tomorrow will know what to put and will let you know if you want:D

Can anyone tell me why my yorkshire puddings stick to the tin - they taste nice but they always stick!

are you using lard/dripping in the tins? i get my lard smoking hot, before putting the batter in, and **touch wood** they've never stuck!!

i always freeze any left over yorkies as well, then just pop 'em in the oven for a couple of mins :D

Thanks Chimp Choker for the idea to get a refund on the tea bags etc and then buy them again!! I was a bit cheesed off after spending over £100 in the store and knew that I had seen them adding points to other peoples shopping at the CS desk. I reckon the chap who served me didn't know how to or couldn't be bothered to do it for me but I won in the end!:j

The lemon cheesecake came out tasting really lemony but the topping was a bit sloppy compared to the sort of cheesecakes that you can buy from the freezer sections.

Had a nice roast chicken for tea with enough leftovers to throw in a rissotto in a couple days time. Have boiled up the carcass for a stock to use in the rissotto too.

Asked DH to buy another net of jaffa oranges from Tesco as I needed a third bag to enter a competition to win a mini! After I had bought two bags for £2.50 yesterday, he bought another two bags today so we now have loads of oranges to last us to the end of the month!:D

Off to update signature. My last day off work tomorrow before returning on Tuesday for a short 5 week term. Got to go to the library and post a parcel but will be keeping away from the food shops.

  • Well Ive just totted up my food bills for the last 3 weeks.
    w/e 4th £90.15
    w/e 11th £107.44
    w/e 18th ££65.93

    Total £262.52
    Average £87.84

Now that is a family of 4 adults plus a 14yr old so 5 adults basically.
Ive been careful but I didnt have a set figure for this month as Ive not been bothering too much in recent months although I am always careful-never extravagent. My figures are for food only-no toiletries, cleaners, or anything else. Now I work that out as £2.48 per person per day.
So if I managed to trim it to £2 a day per peson its £70pw for food.
I know there are a few who declare they feed a family on a lot less-but Im not going any further than that myself.

Ive just weighed out ingredients for "no-fat tea bread" to make tomorrow. I have to soak the fruit overnight for it-its like a fruitcake that you butter(if you want to)I always make 2 loaves-one for the freezer for next week and one for this week.

Well, I've had an NSD - grrrrrr! Spent some considerable time sorting out an online Tesco shop, only to find they don't take Electron! Well pardon me for cancelling my credit cards! I am soooo annoyed! I wanted to use Tesco as then I can use the monthly shop towards collecting points, but looks like I'll have to order from Asda again.
Oh well. I remembered to put the breadmaker on, and we had lovely spag bol from last weeks batch cook, so not so terrible I suppose.

Mr Irwin I found the same problem, I took out a whopping high interest Capital One Visa so I could stop using my partners cards, then just pay off the balance each month, well I actually write it as 'money out' in my bank balance book as soon as I spend it. Thinking is because it's crackers interest I won't leave the balance on! ASDA do take electron, used them many times and I do prefer them, Sainsburys maybe. There are cards you can get which you can load the balance onto aswell. If there weren't £10 off £50 spend etc codes for Tesco I wouldn't have bothered myself.

  • I was braver with my bolognese tonight and chucked 2 handfuls of porridge oats and a handful of lentils in. 3 of us had gnocchi bolognese and I have 4 tubs (each will serve 2) to pop in the freezer along with a tub (serves 2) of chilli from the other night. I cant believe how lovely and creamy the porridge makes the mince. So 800g of mince made 11 portions of bolognese and 9 portions of chilli (BF and DD have been picking at the chilli all weekend). I'm very impressed with that. Thank you everyone, this thread is an inspiration :T :T :T
