I spent £8.23 in the Coop yesterday. I do save 10% as my son works there part time. When we went in the large bloomer loaves were marked down to 74p and I decided that was too much to spend but as I was leaving the girl was marking them down again to 37p so I went back to the check out and bought one. All the family were excited and planning what they were going to have to eat when they saw it in the bread bin. We are so frugal in this house they get excited over simple things!!business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Made a bread last night. Tried with milk powder, but it seem to go quiet heavy inside. If I do a bread without milk or milk powder, it seem to be lighter and fluffier inside. Any ideas????
i never put milk or milk powder in my bread as it makes it taste cakey....just leave it out, it'll be so much nicer0 -
Hello All
Unfortunately Asda delivered on time so no free delivery next time! Never mind, it came to a total of $64 including beer for hubbie.
Just made a savoury bread and butter pudding for tea, using left over bacon etc.
best wishes

Happy Wednesday
Finally caught up with thread as work is quiet today :T and updated siggy. Spent a little more than I thought but have enough food to last this week and part of next. Plus enough toiletries to last into June!
Had a good day Sunday when I baked 4 different bunny/cakey bits and 3 roasts. A chicken was pulled apart for sandwiches for work/school and rest used in sweet and sour last night. One pork roast eaten with cheesy garlic potatoes on Monday  and other joint in freezer ready to thaw and eat with veggies for tea on Friday.
Cats were upset with me though as I wouldn't let them have the remains of the roasts this week. Instead all have been saved in the freezer to make some pies when I find some small pie tins.
I have another chicken sat in the fridge which I am going to try in my SC. The instructions say just place bird inside and turn to low overnight. Is that right? No water, stock or anything?Advice appreciated before I try it and burn the house down
I'll catch up with you all later.:xmastree:Merry Christmas0 -
ooh somebodys just done one of these over on the SC thread....i think they said put a couple of carrots in the bottom of the SC for the chicken to stand on, then peel and chop an onion in half, place it in the chicken then put it in SC. pour over a cup of water ( or white wine i think
) then cook on low for about 6 hours
i'm afraid i can't do links but its deffo on the SC thread!!
edit.... think this might be the thread. hope you can get it to work xx http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=4273&page=64&highlight=slowcooker0 -
I've not managed to keep up with the thread this month (tut tut) but read the last 160 posts this morning (hope I haven't missed any yummy recipes). Shame that they're not collected somewhere near the beginning, but I know that would be a lot of work for someone.
I'm doing ok. Spent £72.03 so far which is really surprising as most of my budget usually goes in the first 2 weeks. I think it's only due to the severe!!! lack of offers. This could be due to food price rises, but there's very little that I'd buy on offer at the moment. Never mind, I'm fairly well stocked. OH's blood pressure is a little high so no hobnobs etc for a while. Means I've also bought extra fruit etc for this month but budget is doing ok.
Thanks for the tip 666paw on 5 mullerlights for £1. I needed yogurts and OH likes these but usually I can't justify the cost of them. I used to buy the 6 pack smooth for £1.60 and these are almost £2 now. Disgraceful really.
Hope everyone's doing ok with budget. Well done to those still under and big hugs to those who are over budget. Every little helps!
Oh, and I managed to leave a gas ring on for 8 hours by accident on Monday. Thankfully, it didn't burn down the house, but it certainly won't help the gas bill. :rolleyes:Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Hi Savvymummy - let me know how you go on...I'd be really interested to see if it makes any difference. GOOD LUCK!
Hi bobykins, I don`t think that the extra fat made that much difference, to the bread drying out. I will still try out different methods and see how I get on. Somebody suggested making bread without milk, so maybe I will try that, still like making my own, so will keep on.
Popped into Aldi today and spent £1.39 on 49p bag of apples and 90p on bananas. First time I have been in this store and to be honest I wasn`t that impressed. Although it was a big store, there wasn`t alot of variety for the size of store, went to lidl the other week and although smaller in size, it did seem to have more choice. I think I might either stick to MrT as it is about 1mile or Asda, if I want a change.
Yesterday I made a lovely chicken soup with Mondays chicken and the stock, so only added onion and seasoning, something sooo simple and sooo tasty. Hubby took that into work today and I had that for lunch with HM roll, also made chicken curry for yesterdays dinner and froze what was left. Still have even more chicken to use up, so will proberly do chicken, leek, cheese pasta bake that jennybee mentioned. Will have to substitue some of the ingrediants as I don`t have them in, but many thanks jennybee for the idea.
Anyway off I go to update, catch yer later.

This is the recipe i use for my bread, have only tried the white one so far, but it is fab and lasts at least a couple of days(if it doesnt get eaten first;) ) Lately i've been using my BM to make the dough and cooking it in the oven. It gives a lovely consistency, would happily buy it from a bakers:DThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
