  • I just thought, we are away from the 4th -11th April but will be using the budget whilst we are away as we are staying in a caravan and we normally mealplan ect whilst we are away...sad or what!!!....the diesel may be a bit higher though as we are travelling over 300 miles away.

We are away the 7th-11th and probably going to meal plan as well. Have a great break and lets hope we get some decent weather.

    Well, Hello everybody.
I am also a brand new member - this is my very first post!!

I have been trying to stick to a budget for the last nine months. but am sliding slowly back to old habits due to laziness. I am hoping that by regularly clocking in here it will help to keep me on the straight and narrow. I have been trying to 'live' off my so's wage and use mine to do up the house so we can sell and go rural. It seems a bit of a dream at the moment - because it appears unachievable get in to the frame of mind where you use the phrase CANeI. I get disheartened, so plenty of kicks up the rear for me would be a GOOD thing. Sorry, don't do violence, the wife does enough of that Anyway, last month I overspent by £73.20!!!! eeeek. See - I'll never get there like that!!! However, I shall trip out a few ofthe excuses already used like the student home from uni, Not an excuse, I have one, lol being veggies and fresh organic is just aaaaarghhhh, grow your own perhaps?? and I also have the excuse of having to fund a very beery and curr er ery weekend on that wonderful rugby weekend when Wales won the GS........again! Anyway, much fun was had and now I must stop it and tighten the belt.......at least until next year when we do it again. NOW that is definatly IN YOUR DREAMS,

So in April I must spend no more than £350. That will feed me, so, teenage son (they eat so much don't they?) and dog. I almost felt shamed into shaving more off as I cannot believe the number of you who somehow manage on a 100 or other small amounts..........I salute you....seriously, I am in awe and eager to learn how you do it. Simple, Don't eat!

I am in very real danger of boring everybody to death with my very first post so I just want to add a big HI to all and good luck!

just one more thing - I'm not really fed up it's just that I had to try sooooo many names before it would let me in!!! All the cutesy itsy bitsy doll like names were gone.
Hang around here long enough and you will be so mad as in loopy you won't care anymore about cute names et al,lol. Welcome aboard.

...the actual spuds have been mashed and frozen until later in week!

Hi Jayne - thanks for the fab tip about peelings... my kids will be very grateful, I know (although my compost heap may suffer!)

I've stayed away from freezing potatoes ever since an unfortunate experience when defrosting potato and celeriac soup. This has been backed up by something I read on here about potatoes defrosting badly... how do you do yours so that you don't end up with a dish of defrosted potato 'water' and a bag of grainy slush?

I'd be ever so grateful for good ways to freeze potatoes as, for budgetary reasons, I'm planning on buying sacks of then in future (thanks Thriftlady) and somehow making them last.

    TIA

My challenge in March was simply to keep a list of what I was spending - it averaged about £60, including pets and food treats like takeaways. Certainly used up what was in the cupboards and freezer through, so my April challenge will be £250. Good luck to all!
  • Good luck for April everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I *think* this is the first time I have joined in with the GC (if I have done one before it was a VERY long time ago!)

I have a chock-full storecupboard and freezer, have already spent my £20 "household goods" budget for April, and have felt that I've been quite uncontrollably extravagant lately. So budget for April - which for me is 5 weeks, commencing 31st March - is £50. My normal food budget for 5 weeks would be about £100.

The aim is to save £50 over 5 weeks off my grocery budget. And the same off my general pocket money budget which I might refer to on here from time to time. And the same again next month (for various reasons it then goes higher over the summer). So I am aiming to save a total of £200 from groceries and pocket money over 10 weeks.

Anyway - grocery challenge. 5 weeks. 1 adult to feed. £50. Starting Monday.

Angelnikki.... if you can do the wraps -you can do the pancakes :D .... pretty much the same method... but you just peel them apart ..really easy ;)

MrsM I'm sure they are really easy but I dont need to try them cos we usually get crispy duck and pancakes  for free from our local chinese whenever my OH does them a favor:cool: :money:
