What's the best/first 'normal' thing you've done since BR?

For me, it'll be having my hair cut on Saturday for the first time in over a year. Going to get about 8 inches lopped off.
I've had £5 a month budgeted for hair cuts but that used to go on DD since I've got used to being scruffy, but I hate her having to put up with it too.
Now I figure that I can use my massive  surplus of £40 to actually look tidy for once. I won't even be spending all of it - I'll have enough left over to buy a hairdryer that doesn't overheat every 2 minutes (yay superdrug!).

Lol Dalip..me too.
Ohh loads of good things since BR. I get such a huge pleasure at paying for stuff with real money that i actually have on me.
Christmas was great for me as i spent a little over £50 for everything. Normal spend at xmas is well over £350:eek:
My mum took me shopping for some clothes the other day and had forgotten her glasses. She gave me her CC and pin and told me to go and pay for them as she couldn't see very well. My heart was racing holding this little card in my mitts and when i went to pay i mucked it up and it all had to be started again:eek: then i mucked it up again..think the assistant thought i'd stolen the card. I had to go to the check out and pay like this three times (i made mummy spend loads on me:o ) by the third time i'd got right back into the swing of it though:rolleyes:
I think the best of all though is seeing a balance on my bank statements. Not seen one of them for approx 12 years:oThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
Yes know what you mean our bank account is in credit and on the statements it looks sooo wrong!!!!. God i shake now everytime i see one in front of me in the supermarket que with a cc!Free impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

I feel immense satisfaction from just paying my bills and being in credit at the end of the month... even if it is just a few pence!0

im looking forward to using my hair allowance, I last had my hair done when the baby was 17 days old, she is now nearly 19 months!!!! severe split end syndrome, roll on BR!!!0

Well, I need to get a job first, and I shave my own head (cheap and guaranteed good job!) so don't suffer from split ends:rotfl:.
When I am working, using my hair allowance to contribute to some top of the range(ish) clippers or towards some new clothes! Haven't bought any for... too long:rolleyes:. But I am happy though, so that's the best thing....:D0 -
Best thing Ive done is start doing a weekly shop again- done this since I decided on the "Big B" route- not having to juggle money and credit is sheer bliss. And actually openning the fridge and having stuff like milk- I used to put it off for so long, then buy it on my credit card.0

Prior to BR, having a credit free Xmas was brilliant. Just the sheer relief of not having extra debt come January.BSC member 131 :j Now bring me that horizon...

The first normal thing I did was open the post. For months, I'd done everything but open it - leave it on the table, stuff it in a drawer, put it in carrier bags & hide it in the bottom of the wardrobe, shred it, throw it away unopened. When you're in lots of debt, you get so many letters from creditors that it doesn't take long to start recognising the addresses on the back, the area in the franking stamp, even the way your address appears in the window of the envelope. And you know what the letter's going to say anyway, so it's a waste of energy opening it . For me, being able to open the post without being frightened of the contents was the first step into normality.
The best normal thing is not seeing a negative balance on anything. All the bills are up-to-date or in credit, the rent is paid on time & has been in credit for almost a year, the gas board owes me money because my direct debit was too high for my usage, & my bank statements are all in credit. It's a really good feeling to see bank statements with no deductions for charges.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I opened a letter from Natwest for the first time in months today. I rang them and even though the guy had NO CLUE what to do when I told him I was BR (I was on hold about 5 times - think he was new), I have a fax number so I will call the OR tomorrow and get them to send something as their letter obviously hasn't got there.BSC member 131 :j Now bring me that horizon...
