Matalan card

I used to work for a Matalan.
The management were very very pushy on making us get people to register for cards.
You don't actually need one, unless you are buying the offers which are for cardholders only.
I went up to another store once while visiting friends up north and was told that I couldn't purchase my bits without a card, when I told them that I had until recently worked at one and I know you don't officially need one - she let me off (I had forgotten mine).
Basically, if they get over what is called an acceptable by-pass rate (where people don't have cards and don't want to register for one either), the members of staff can get a real grilling about it and are "taught" how to make customers register for it.Member No. 10 of the "104 free previews in 2008" club! 101 to go.

I quite often don't have mine on me so i just say i haven't got mine with me and they just rip off a new one that they have by the tills swipe that and bobs your uncle. Never had to enter any further details and only once have they gone off to find my account number. That's been the case for months in Southampton.0

Yep, need one to shop at Newton Abbot and Exeter, had to use my MIL's once when i forgot my own! Haha.
What is the freebie? Or has this been posted on the wrong board?
The card is the freebie,as I gather you get exclusive offers and prices on certain items.. so no this hasn't been posted in the wrong place.
As for needing the card to shop at Matalan, that is news to me. I only got a card as I went to the checkout to pay and was asked if I had a card, then if I would like a card.
Prior to this I have never had a Matalan card :beer:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

This should really be on the shop but dont drop board. Although the card is free, you still need to spend money to get anything out of it.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -
Call me stupid but i really dont understand the whole point of matalan cards - my store refuses to let u buy anything without one, i never see any "card holder only" offers in store....so why the hell do they insist on everyone having one......hmmmmm.....??!!
oh and why oh why do they have 10 till points but only ever 2 cashiers on - even when there is a queue of 30+ customers??? And why do they employ people who will mill around the tills rearranging stock on the closest shelves but NOT come to tills when the poor hassled till assts call for "back up" lol??????
Matalan is madness!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -

Not at all, the card is free, you are not obliged to buy anything.
One of the offers they are running for card holders is:
To claim your FREE 2 day guest membership for you and a friend in association with Matalan, simply complete the form below and take the voucher into the club of your choice!
