In both instances, the problem isn't the signage but that the person cannot be bothered to read it.

£80 is not high for someone who is probably getting more in benefits than most working people in their town and who has a free car where they only pay for petrol. If they think £80 is too high then perhaps they should stop being so bone idle and read the signs.
I think this is hugely judgmental and in some cases wrong.

Regarding the first sentence as has been mentioned some signs have been placed a considerably distance away for some disabled people to walk/get to.

My MIL is disabled and I can assure you that after nearly 60 years of working and saving that she is not getting great benefits.
Neither does she get a free car as this is not avialable to older people (65 is the cut off for applying for motobaility I think).

I agree that everyone should read the signs and obey the law but not all of us are perfect (whether able or disabled). The OP was not disputing this, only asking for help.

A lot of disabled people have problems to deal with and whilst they should still obey the law and not abuse the system, I think they deserve some help and sympathy and not slap judgements which are often incorrect.

If you don't want to help the OP, then what exactly is your objective on this thread?
Just to wind people up or do you have an underlying issue with disabled people?

BTW - Every single disabled person I know works (my MIL is now retired by worked til 72 despite arthritis).

thanks lisyloo. i though i might be doing some people a faver by letting them know that they need to be more carefull in future. but it seems like we might have hit a sore point with our conor:mad: . no i do not earn as much as you and lets hope that if you get a bad ailment that you can still carry on a be debt free so soon lets hope it does not effect you too soon. as for signs in london by meters as i said before there are no signs to tell disabled people that they need to pay first then they get some free time.

Don't give up posting just because a few people have serious problems with saying things withut being insulting and judgemental.

Conor I don't need to re-read the highway code in reference to disabled drivers as I am not, thankfully, in possession of a blue badge and the point made was a valid one - why do you get involved in threads that obviously wind you up and make you so cross and angry that you haveto write such horrible posts. I thought that these boards were for helping people not for berating people and making negative assumptions about people's lives.

If you want to express your opinions about disabled drivers/parkers then maybe you should start a post inthe Moneysavers Arms where people aren't asking for help or advice.

    Hi mikog,

    Please don't stop posting.
For every judgemental person with issues there may be many hundreds of freindly posters who can benefit from advice or give it.
Don't let it put you off using this great site, that would be a shame.

Good afternoon, Just a small thing- when your local council issue you with a blue badge you should have recieved a booklet. in there are all the regulations regarding parking, and there is a section related to certain boroughs in london who have their own rules regulations. perhaps it is worth contacting whoever issued your badge to get a new booklet. The blue badge is certainly not a pass for free parking and there are quite a few rules etc..

"Important! The conditions of use for the Blue Badge Scheme in Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, City of London & Camden (South of Euston Road), differ from parking concessions for disabled motorists in the rest of the country."

For what it is worth, I live in Teignbridge District Council area and recently my partner took a neighbour to the doctors. To do this one has to park in a council car park. The neighbour has a disabled badge for his car but said that in this car park all the spaces were fee paying. I had not noticed this before and next time I was in the car park I had a good look at the notice and it did indeed state that.

It's at least two years since Teignbridge District Council introduced parking charges for disabled drivers in their car parks. I can remember parking in the sea front car park at Teignmouth (the one where you can look across the estuary to Shaldon) in late 2005/early 2006 & there were large notices warning of the new charges.

Some councils allow disabled drivers to park free of charge but some don't.
It is of course unfair if there are no notices either on poles or attached to the pay & display machines. This applies to car parks & in on-street parking bays. Parking on double/single yellow lines is a different matter.
