Hi everyone. I was an Npower customer for some time, and certainly whilst this overcharging was happening.
I moved to E.on last September....
What do you suggest I do? Wait for the cheque, or contact Npower?
I was not aware till now that there was a problem with their bills.I moved here from Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) in 1980. I went to Borrowdale Primary School.0 -

There are two ways npower overcharged.
The first, which is the subject of this thread, involves charging more high rate (also referred to as tier one or Primary Block units) over what they are entitled to charge for over a year. Their entitlement is 4572kWh per annum. As far as we can tell this first occurred in October, 2004 and was repeated again in 2007. To quickly establish if you have been a victim of this you need to total the number of high rate units you were charged for in a year i.e. any continuous period of 12 months. If the total is more than 4572 then you were overcharged.
The second instance of overcharging occurred in the specific period of May-October, 2007. This is the instance that Ofgem have ruled against npower on and has caused npower to refund some 200,000 customers.
It is not overly simple to work out if you were overcharged during this period.
In order to do it you need to know the price of your tier 1 and tier 2 units in April 2007. npower lowered the price of the tier 2 units only, in May 2007.
You now need to know how many tier 1 and tier 2 units (kWh) you were charged for between May-October, 2007. Then work out the cost of these units at the prices applicable in April, 2007 before the tier 2 price reduction. If your bill(s) comes to more than it would have cost you before the price decrease then npower should be sending you a rebate/credit for this amount.
The third scenario is that customers were charged more as a result of the price reduction, as in example 2 and charged more than 4572 kWh tier 1 units in a year, as in example 1.
If it seems a bit confusing you can post bill details on here and someone will check for you.0 -
Thanks for the info.... I will look into it, and then post the details on here as it is very confusing.......I moved here from Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) in 1980. I went to Borrowdale Primary School.0

Like the last post, I was with npower until moving house last March. I no longer have any of the bills so don't know for sure if they owe me anything back. Will they contact me or do I need to contact them? They would have my new address as that is where they sent my final bill.0

Have I missed something. I am sure this thread had around 45000 hits last week. Now it's 65000+. Has it just gained popularity for some reason or is someone trying to crash it.
I did ask the npower rep who came on MSE to advertise their Brighter Energy Debate forum to reciprocate by advertising MSE on theirs. Maybe....?0 -
