    Example of my overcharging

My bill from 3/4/06-3/4/07 is correct.
My bill for 3/4/07-3/4/08 shows I paid 6480 Higher Rate Units.
That is an excess of 1908 units.
My higher rate units were 6.556p each and I deduct the price of my Lower Rate units at 1.99p each, that equals 4.566p each unit overcharged.
    1908 x 4.566p = £87.12
    + VAT at 5% that I have overpaid on the £87.12 = £4.36
    Does that mean that I have been overcharged by £87.12 + £4.36 = £91.48?

Yep. Now see what it comes to using the pre price increase rates. If it comes to less stick with what you have.

Thanks, I will stick to these figures as the price difference is greater (Between higher rate and lower rate) and I had already fully paid for my contracted 4572 PER ANNUM prior to these increases, hence I was overcharged at the increased prices!

No I haven't as only found out myself a few days ago. I'll see if it's possible to email them my figures (bills). I think Ofgem had given npower to the 14th May or something like that to respond.
Probably enough to just email them the fact and offer to supply evidence if needed.
Where do you come from? Betrug lol.
Yes, I am German, but I think the sculpting scam originated in Swindon. Not the least because the similarly sounding word 'schwindeln' means fibbing.
Also I would be surprised if the umbrella company would get involved in the nitty gritty billing details of its subsidiaries.

The German for it is Schwindel!
The legal term is Betrug, take my word for it. For the difference between Betrug and Diebstahl, you have to look up the angle grinder case (Winkelschleiferfall, excellent for any keen collector of long german words).

My apologies RM5, I bow to your superior knowledge. My German is only secondary school level, that was a considerable time ago, and even then I spent most of my time flicking elastic bands at the nun teachers!
    Betrug it is in then!

Thanks for that you are a mine of information. I suppose it's where we get swindle from. I never knew npower made umbrellas either. Come in handy for supplying energy to sheltered housing. You Germans think of everything.

This is uncanny but perhaps proves that npower were consistent with their scam.
I carried out the same excercise as Anne, but for the period 7 April 06 to 22 April 08, thinking that the period when they sculpted correctly would equal 4572 and any excess over twice 4572 would be my overcharge.
During that period I used 11052 high rate units when I should have used 9144, the difference is 1908, the same as Annes.
Just given this more thoughts. I think everyones overcharge will be the same as it occured during the period when they suspended the sculpting in 2007, so the overcharge is the difference between what they would have charged under sculpting and what they actually charged when they reverted to the flat rate for those months. Am I correct?

Obviously not if you were an extremely small user and never went above the 4572 units per annum anyway and also the amount overcharged would differ if your higher rate unit price and lower rate unit price were not the same as mine.
Gosh, thats an awful lot of extra money NPower have in their pocket, perhaps explains how their profits increased 41.4% that year.
It is ours, give it back!

Yes small users would not be the same but all large (over 4572) users would be overcharged the same 1908 kwh. The actual cost would vary of course as you say depending on the different tariffs. But yes it will be a huge amount, no wonder they are digging their heels in!

Can anyone figure out this one. 1/2/04-11/5/04 High units 1265. Won't fit the old sculpt or a daily rate. I tried it with a combination of daily from1/2/04-31/3/04 and then old sculpt to 11/5/04. which gets me to 1302, pretty close but should be getting it spot on + or - a couple of units. It should have all been done at the flat rate anyway. Bills either side of it are all flat daily rate up to 1/10/04.
