It's been every one for me too, which is a pain as I have the reader at work so I can't do things at home!

Especially a pain as I regularly move money between my NW current account and my (Kaupthing Edge) savings account because NW are pretty rubbish on their interest rates...

And yes, I have started sending cheques...
Standing orders are currently unaffected by the card reader - so, as an option, you could set this up for a nominal amount (say £1 per month) with a set dates (say 15th) and once up you can amend both amounts and dates as often as you like. So you just move the date of the 'next' payment to tomorrow and the amount to want you want. (But you then have to come back later and set to £1)

    Hi,

Just a quick question. RBS and Barclays are sending me a card reader to use with online banking. Can I able to use just one reader for my both RBS/Barclays card and with any other banks?

    Thanks

I got my card reader about a month ago.It had no instructions and it's just been sitting by my computer since then. Will Nationwide tell me when and how to use it or do I need to contact them? I really am not too bright with new gadgets.

Yes, they have a webpage which appears whenever you are trying to create a payment which needs card reader authorisation. The instructions are very straightforward (and after the first one or two times you will know the procedure by heart)

I have a barclays card reader which you have to use everytime you want to login to online banking as well as making payments to somebody for the first time - so if you only have to use it for payments thing yourselves lucky!

I have tried using my barclays card reader with cards from A+L, Halifax and Abbey but it always comes up saying CARD IS NOT ACCEPTED - so it looks like the barclays card reader is set to use only Barclays cards - that will be rather annoying if you have to have several card readers for doing effectively the same thing but just with different cards.

I've just tried my Barclays card reader with my Nationwide card and it worked fine.

I had started to think that nationwide security was a bit lax before they started this (and them silly extra 'security' questions, like what color are your eyes).

Moving on when will halifax improve there security, the log on questions they use are so easy to find out "whats your mothers/fathers first name" etc. Also I have always thought that the question could be emotional for those who lost there parents or did not know one of them.

Although Halifax login is not all that secure, but thats just like any login process. One thing that Halifax is great with, is that when setting up new payees, you will need to answer the question that you set yourself up with. A fraudster is unable to use phishing techniques to get the answer to that question. I think Halifax is the most secure and does not require any stupid gadgets.
