Shell MasterCard from Citi

Ill start of by saying im a total noobie at this so forgive my stupidity.

Has anyone got any experience of this card as a cashback scheme?

seams to have good cashback for purchases made everywhere (1%)

also gives 3% of fuel purchases made at shell garages.

is there something i am missing or is this a good card to go for?

  • the only thing is that you have to buy petrol @ a shell petrol station before they add any cash back to your account... if you don't by the petrol they will just keep adding up your cash back until you do buy some from shell. And i think if you don't buy any for three months then you loss the cash back

i have had this card for 6 months and as i have a shell station local that is just as cheap as the local asda i get the benefits of the card, i would say its not the best if you dont have a local shell station or one you use cause if the fuel is dearer it will cancel out any benefits of the cash back and as already said the cash back only comes of of fuel purchases so if you dont buy any in the month from a shell station you cash back will not be taken of. Over i would say its good for cash back as i have earns about £30-£40 already.

I've been trying to apply for this card but keep getting a server error when I get half-way through :( Anyone else experienced this? I'm not that desperate for the card but it would be nice as I typically use Shell to fill up.

All, I applied last year and have got £50.00 back already.

Its 6 months the cashback will be frozen if you don't fill up at Shell. After 12 months you will lose the cashback. But if Shell is your local garage then this is well worth it. Shell prices are just as good asda, morrisons, tesco etc and its grade one fuel. (The supermarkets have grade two fuel).

Its the 2nd best card to go for (Amex is the best on cashback but worst on accepting over the counter).

If you are a getting a server error just ring them direct on 0207 158 0929 and apply over the phone.

I've got it too, haven't totalled up the cashback but it's normally about £5 per month for me, and I have 2 shells near me, (both pretty much equidistant apart from where I live), and normally one of them (if not both) is the same price as the supermarkets. :)
  • The problem with the Shell citibank card is they continue to charge you interest even if you pay the statement balance on time.

This occurs if you say are one day late in making your payment in full one month, thereafter unless you specifically ask for a settlement balance you will each month be charged interest on the transactions on your account with them ad infinitum.

They do not explain this to you if you call to pay the statement balance. It is in the terms but not clearly in my opinion.

"8. Interest charges are calculated and applied as follows:

    8.1 Purchases
If you pay in full the Balance shown on your current statement by the Payment Due Date, you will not pay any interest on Purchases shown on your statement. If you pay in full the Balance shown on your current statement by the Payment Due Date but did not pay in full the Balance shown on your previous statement by the Payment Due Date, we will charge interest on each Purchase shown on your previous statement on a daily basis from the date of the relevant Purchase until you have paid the Balance in full. For the Balance to be cleared in full, this payment will need to include all interest accrued since the date of the statement until your payment clears onto your Account."

This is the case with all Credit Cards as far as I am aware. It would appear to be standard practice.

Not So. I have several other credit cards and anytime I may have missed a payment by a day and cleared the statement balance and then the following months statement balance which may or may not depending on what they applied includes the interest or late feed, I haven't been charged interest on going.

Remember I am talking about clearing the statement balance every month and on the rare occasion of being late by a day through circumstance.

Only Shell Citi do this from the cards I have.
  • I've just received my Citi Shell card and is trying to complete the direct debit form now, I checked it several times, there is no usual checkbox Minimal/Full amount to pay. How do I make sure it will be paid in full ?
