If you've tried with the recovery discs already and they didn't work, then you may as well try disconnecting the CD/DVD drive as suggested above, because even though it's probably not that, you've got nothing to lose by (carefully) trying it.
What I'd personally try is going to http://www.memtest86.com/ and clicking on "free download". Then downloading either Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.4a installable from Windows and DOS if you want to use a floppy disk, or the Download - Memtest86 v3.4a ISO image (zip) if you want to try it from CD (but if the problem lies with your CD drive this may be an issue. If you're not comfortable with doing this, or you can't find someone that is, then it may need a trip to a reputable repair shop.Team Fishcake - Silly, strange, surreal and stupid original comedy0
