I don't really have that strong an accent due to my mum making sure i always spoke properly, but i have been known to slip into doric every so often.
Someone i used to work with alway spoke with out an accent to other people, but when she was on the phone to her parents or gran in Glasgow, used to break into pure glaswegian.
Personally i love the Irish accent!!
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

I love the scottish accent, also the irish one as well. Sometimes it's a bit hard to understand especially when they talk too fast.

I don't like the aussie accent. Whenever I hear it on the telly I cringe and think OMG do I really sound like that. It's strange that no matter where we come from in Aus we all sound the same but each village/town in UK you are all different. Must be just the way it all evolved.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

I love just about all Scottish accents, and Irish too.

There are some English accents that do my head in though - Saaaf Lahnden for example - but love accents like scouse and geordie.

I hate it when people say 'f' for 'th' - thats just lazy! (I don't mind it if they have a lisp, but when it is deliberate). My daughter has started doing that - I think it is from a tv programme she watches and I correct her EVERY time - that seems to be more an english thing than a scottish thing - I wouldn't mind but we live just about as far away from England as it is possible to be within the UK!

    rant over!!

  • Any Scottish accent that I have ever heard is lovely.

Just be glad that you don't come from Northern Ireland.........I hate my accent!

    Pink
pink winged you wrote what I was thinking ..My Northern Ireland accent has to be one off the worst off all times .
  • The scottish accent is great - couldn't be more proud to have it and mines a good mix having moved about the north a fair bit - even the far north isles. Have to say the Orkney and Shetland accents are simply beautiful!!

When I mentioned to my daughters that I did not think that I had a Scottish accent any more - they rolled around laughing!

I never had a broad accent but apparently it is still possible to tell I am Scottish.

Funnily enough English people notice it - rather than Scots.
