Im Scots too, but I quite like my accent.... Other nationalities that I deal with at work seem to really like dealing with us Scots folk.
My partner who is English loves my accent (central scotland) and helpfully means he has to pay attention to what I'm saying....!!!Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

I also hate listening to people from certain areas of Scotland, they sound dead rough.
Do any other Scottish folk feel the same?travelover0 -
I'm not scottish but I adore scottish accents - my BF is from Glasgow, his accent is yummy, he could read out a phonebook to me and I'd be hanging on to his every word *sigh*"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Nope! Without accents we would all sound like Disneyland announcers or BBC newsreaders. For goodness sake don't standardise the way we speak - life without the impenetrable Aberdonain, the lilt of the highlands and the Western Isles, the "growl" of the industrial heartland and even the English-impersonating good burghers of Edinburgh would be dull indeed.
There is an old cartoon in a "Puch on Scotland" book that I've got about a lad from Kirkcaldy who goes to London to make his fortune but returns after only a brief visit. His pal asks him why he came back and the reply was something like "Ach, ye ken it wis fine, bu' they couldni understoan ma oaksent" his pal replied "Oaksent? Oaksent? Ah didnae ken Fife fowk hud oany oaksent!"
Well..... it made me giggle!

I love the accent, although I went on a course earlier this year with 3 people from Glasgow, one being the course tutor, and I found I was about 2 minutes behind the others understanding what was being said, because they were all talking soooo fast. By the time I'd grasped the last bit, they were 3/4 way through the next bit of information. Needless to say my head was abit battered, and we where in Newcastle (upon Tyne) so I had to contend with that accent too!! All great fun, but sometimes I had to ask them to slow down!!!:rotfl::j0
