washing thats been rained on

  • i wouldn't wash it, no. perhaps a spin if it's very wet. i don't think rain is very dirty?

i take it off the line when it rains, if i remember, because the wetter stuff gets the more it stretches towards the floor and goes out of shape.

  • If it is a particular heavy rainfall or it has been out for a couple of days I just stick it in the washing machine with some fabric conditioner and put it through the final stage of a wash.

If it was really wet I'd stick it in the washer for a spin but otherwise wouldn't bother putting it in the washing machine at all. I try to leave mine outside until it eventually dries but (being from the west of scotland) this is sometimes easier said than done - 19 days last year was the record and then I gave in - had to spin it and just threw it in the tumble drier in disgust (this was in JUNE!)

I'm with the majority here - leave it there til it dries (which might be a few days looking at the weather forecast)

Does no one else have dirty rain, is it just a Belfast thing? :)

We have a lot of building work going on at the minute in Belfast and I think this might be the reason for the dirty rain .... when I say dirty I do mean windows looking filthy etc...

Maybe us 'leave it outters' only put dark clothes on the line. Can't see the dirt then :o

I know what you mean though. I had a house on a building site, it was just permanent dust. So yeah your probably right.
  • leave it out til it dries? if i did that every item would be pood on by the birds. as it is, about a fifth of them need re-washing if i leave out for one daytime :(

I would just spin it through and hang it out again.

i came home from work at lunch time today to find my washing getting rained on. i brought it straight in, hung it on the airer and it is almost dry. it must have dried enough before the rain to almost dry it anyway.

but i would never wash it again no matter how rained on it got!
  • Nah, don't wash it again. Pop it on the airer or if you haven't got one back on the line. :D
