I get the feeling that this remark is a back-handed attempt at self-praise.

As a 'not only but also', let me add that when my wife rang those paragons of virtue and upholders of ethics, MBNA, they would not accept a debit card payment (to close the account) from her as it was ' too much'. She then decided to make the payment through the bank instead. To her dismay, she then finds that they have taken the maximum debit card payment anyway, even though she told them that she would be paying by other means. Now we are in the position of paying over the amount owed to them by £150, and have to try to get it back ! At the very least this is sharp practice and I stand by original description of MBNA.

Sounds like incompetence to me. Now that is what I expect from MBNA.
    Not even wrong

Am I understanding this right... for the few pence of going over the credit limit (which they happly allowed) and then trying to close the acc. even by debit card has cost you an extra 150.00!!!!! If so I again thank you for this post... They will never have me apply for one of the rip off cards!... How, Why would anyone think this was not sharp practice!!!!
  • i have just been charged two late payments and interest £120 in total due to banking errors and mbna not allowing me to pay them by debit card.

when i complained i was told to read the back of my statement they can charge - its what i signed up for!

    Hello Girl Power,
Hopefully, no it has not cost us that £150 ! When my wife tried to pay the full amount owed, in order to cancel her credit card account, they said that could not accept such a large amount by debit card over the 'phone. She told them she would pay the full amount by a different method. After we paid the balance in full through the bank, we found that they had also debited £150 from her debit card. Now we will have to claim the excess payment back. It seems that they can make mistakes, but we cannot ! I think I will impose a fine on them, or maybe a late payment fee ! Thanks for your moral support !

get it now.. you make a 74 pence error and... BANG. They make a 150.00 error and..ok they wil get it back to you when they have looked into it... No sharp practice there then.. see you should have chosen a better title.. they seem to be really fair....
