    Not the attitude of the CSA itself, but the laws that they are bound to.

    Not the attitude of the CSA itself, but the laws that they are bound to. Regardless of how each individual staff member feels about a situation, they can't do anything about it other than follow what they are supposed to do. In situations when they don't do this, then you have cause for complaint.

    No it is the attitude of the staff actually, they are not very understanding or willing to hear you out! I believe that the individual member of staffs uses their own feelings about the case! They may have to follow the rules set out for them but it doesnt stop them from having a stinking attitude towards people on the phone.

    Do you work for them or something? you seem very defensive on their side? I know you only giving reasons etc but i think unless you deal with them with such a situation its not fair to say how they act towards people on the phone.

    If you say so. People's ideas of CSA staff listening to them is getting what they want when they can't have it!! We can be as sympathetic as you like, but we can't always give you what you want I'm afraid. Whether or not we agree with this is irrelevant - I can make all the right noises, but if the law prevents me from taking specific action then I can't take it, regardless of whether I think I should be able to or not.

    You will find people in every situation in every job has an individual attitude - some you will agree with some you won't. Personally I would never be outright rude to somebody, but I can't break the law for somebody and if I have to make it clear to them, then so be it. Customers can be extremely rude and demanding - not accepting what they don't want to hear. It works both ways.

    I agree too, FAR too many judgemental people lining up to have a pop at the OP.

    Is it really all that impossible for the flamers to accept that sometimes the NRP had no choice??? that the NRP was the victim of betrayal and happened to be thrown out of his life long commited role as a caring parent??

    It is not always the father who runs off with his secretary, no matter how convenient it is for people to believe!

    My partner is in a similar position to the OP so I can sympathise.His child is due to start college in september, doing nails and beauty course, she also works 4 days a week in a retail shop and does not live with the claiming parent.I would be interested to know which college courses are exempt, I have looked on the DWP website but cant find the answer.
    OH daughter is nearly 17, how long do we have to pay.We have 2 children too and it puts a strain on us financially.BTW it was not his fault he became a NRP and his ex told him she was unable to concieve, he did not want children with her.She had suffered a miscarriage at 20wks before he got together with her and she said an obstetrician told her she would never have children after the op she had, she later admitted lying so it isnt always the NRP fault.Does anyone know which courses are exempt?

    Exactly! You can listen to someone go on and on and on for hours about their situation and how the laws and the government is wrong - but there is bu*ger all we can do to change the law! How many different ways can you say 'no' to someone without eventually seeming to be rude!

    Does anyone know which courses are exempt?

    Click on to the college website that she'll be attending & find out the exact qualification that she's studying for.
    Then click on to
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/child-16.htm This should give you the info that you need.

    If child benefit is payable for that course, then so is child support via the CSA until either she finishes the course, or reaches the age of 19 as things stand at present.

    Agreed, but the NRP has already paid the amount required by a method agreed & approved by the CSA (Post Office paying-in slip, I assume).
    Therefore, shouldn't the CSA be taking action against the Post Office & not penalising, harshly in my view, the NRP by making him/her pay twice & possibly causing undue financial hardship?
