Im a bit  at the minute, due to the fact that 'we' cannot get any help while my OH is unemployed.
I earn £15,000 and OH is on JSA contribution based. We have no children, are not renting and have just heard back to say we can't get any CT benefit.
I might get £22 a week WTC but thats dragging on as OH doesn't have revelant documents, so inland revenue are having to get back to him. To be honest, might as well wait till the P60's come and ask for a new claim form.
I don't consider my wage to be that high, especially with the cost of living going up. We've done okay the 2mths so far he's been unemployed as his parents are giving us money, but now with CT coming into the picture again and no help with it, im starting to panic.
Nothing else is available for me to try and claim and try and get some help right?

Unfortunately that is the situation when you are unemployed and without children!
It could be worse, if you were single and unemployed all you would have coming in is the JSA.Gone ... or have I?0 -
What about signing up with an agency and getting some temping work? Perhaps looking for jobs that are not the same as the old job etc?0

I am sorry to say it is a case of join the real world.
I earn less than you per year and have disabled husband granted he gets his benefits but that is nothing to what income we had before. But we do not get tax credits have to pay prescription charges and my husband has to 5 different tablets a day either wise he will be become very ill or even die.
No CT help because we have to much in savings.
Have to pay a mortgage. The list goes on.
Can't your OH get any job like stacking shelves in a supermarket. Has he signed up with agencies?
All the best
Yours

Just to add to the deep joy of the OP.
After 6 months the contribution based JSA will stop and will be assessed on a joint income base so even that might be lost.
Can't you have a couple of children quickly? That is the only way to get help in the brave new world Gordon Brown has created for us.0 -
No MP could of put it better Kriss, unfortunately with the tax credit system we have created a state where it's get what you can by any means and if you're not entitled moan about it twice!!!!!!!!!!!
I honestly thought Tax Credits were to help people on a low income.
Why is OP moaning that her boyfriend doesn't want to continue working once his entitlement to CBJSA runs out.
I really really think this is a joke post and no-one should reply as OP hasn't come back to defend her OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
I haven't come back until this morning as i have a life. I wasn't going to sit here all last night waiting for replies, especially not waiting for yours at 12:47am.
I am not moaning, i was simply stating that i am disappointed that just because i don't have children, i won't be getting any help. If i could be entitled to something that i might have not know, id rather apply and see if i could get help, rather than struggle.
No where in my post allen did i say that my boyfriend doesn't want to work once his entitlement to CB JSA runs out. Could you please point out where i said that?
I simply saw someone telling me that after 6mths this does run out. Which i thank that person for telling me as i hope to god he has a job by then.
I have posted on here before to get some info regarding benefit and everytime, someone like you whinges. Do you think my OH wanted to be unemployed??? Do you think he has liked being at home for the past 2 months??
All i am in saying is that my wage of £15,000 is nothing special, it doesn't cover every day living and while yes i would imagine i earn more than other people who also have OH on benefits for whatever reason, i am surprised that people in Govt, with loads of money can suddenly put such a low cap on someones wage to whether they should get help with everyday living.
I am simply upset that in this world, you work and work and then suddenly luck doesn't go your way and then your still expected to pay the same costs as you would of done with 2 incomes.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
I am sorry to hear about your difficulties, ContinualDiamond. The fact that you are struggling on an income that is some way above the official poverty line should make you (and everyone who reads this post) appreciate just how poor many people are, and how much they need the government help that they receive.
As for the comment about children: your income is just above the threshold for receiving most of the help available, so having kids would not help. Rather, you should reflect on how much more difficult life would be if you had to bring up one or more children on your current income, and so might appreciate that there is a real need for the government help that is directed to people in that situation.
You don't say if you have housing costs. I assume that a hefty chunk of your income goes to service a mortgage, in which case you are in real trouble. Until the Thatcher years, people could receive help towards mortgage interest in the same as towards rent (which makes sense, because both are unavoidable payments for housing costs). Unfortunately, the insurance industry persuaded the government that owner-occupiers should insure against unemployment and so it is now virtually impossible to get help with mortgage interest, a change that I think was appalling.
I do hope that you get some joy out of your claim for WTC. Failing that, you could investigate whether you would be better off as tenants.0 -

Good for you continualdiamond, I am 40 and live alone, my daughter is nine and lives with her father (long story) and I have always paid through the csa for my daughter. I also earn £16,500 and get no help towards the costs of my daughter, I own my home (mortgage of £46,000) and in the past two-three years the cost of living has put me in slight debt. In 2001 when I bought my first house after divorcing I was managing really well, but bills going up, pay only going up by 2.5% a year made me slide into debt. I am being made redundant at end of may and get a package of £31,000 but I doubt I will get much help towards me getting another job, eg I will probably have to fight for benefits. I intend to invest the money and try and save as much money as possible but there are hardly any benefits for single people like me. I have worked since I was 17 and I know the government will try to get out of paying me any benefits until I get a job. So I know how it feels.
Good luck though. Allen35 why do people like you always have a go at someone who is just asking for advice????Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
good for you sticking up for yourself continualdiamond, hope OH finds something soon, we had a similar problem a few years ago when my OH was made redundant0
