That is absolutely true, but if the dogs are happy, healthy and fit on it, then whats the problem?

The OP asked what we feed and why - I have given my reasons and I (and my dog) are happy with Wagg - Unless I had a good reason to swap (eg. if it didnt suit my dog or the vet recommended a different diet due to medical reasons) I will stick with what works for me and my dog, and is affordable.
Thats exactly what I advocate whenever this discussion comes up. The best food for your dog is the food that suits you both. Hell my last dog ate pedigree and was as fit as a fiddle on it - wouldnt entertain any of the more "premium" brands and I certainly wasnt going to stress us both out by forcing him to eat what I thought was best for him :)

When I got Ted (seems horrible to say bought:o ) he was fed Hills, I changed him to Iams, as it was available from the supermaket (& I knew sod all about cat food).

Then I realised Hills was better & changed him back, then I saw Royal Canin on special offer & now he won't eat anything else:mad:

Well, coming across as dog torturers is hardly good for their sales it is:eek: !!

    - that page is very carefully worded, but does not state that they do not engage in animal testing, or deny that the photos taken were from the same 'site' as their unit...

In fact looking at their 'responses to..' links it is clear that they do engage in animal testing, and a lot of their defence is focussed on whether the tests were before or after a certain date (1999 moratorium) , and that 'the dogs that died did not die as a result of the testing'... hmmm

Personally, I would rather buy from a company who can state that they do not test on animals.

You can make your own choices of course.

This one says all the supermarket (& a few of the pet shop ones) are bad.

absolutely - my gran had a jack russell called Biff who was a bit of a character and lived to a sprightly 18 on table scraps and occasional meals of cooked meat (boiled liver!) - not 'nutritionally balanced' but it worked for him :rotfl: (I think it fed into his delusions that he was a human - he thought he was a small, grumpy old man who liked chips!)

here are a list of the companies that DO NOT do any testing, according to:
http://www.carn-age.org.uk/pets.html (WAGG is on the good list!)

Some of these brands are available in supermarkets.
  • I feed my dog Dr Johns gold medal & he thrives on it & loves it. Our previous dog loved it too and she was 13 when she died which is a good age for a big doggie.

it says it costs £13 there for £15 kg but last time we bought some 2 months ago it was £8.99 (not online, from local farm & garden store) it's classed as a working dog food so that's why it's cheaper as it's VAT free I think

I just changed my two lively dallies to Dr Johns dry, as its the lowest in protien i could find, too much protien and they are even more hyper. It definently seems to have helped.
£7.99 for 15kg sack lasts them two weeks.
    :p
  • I have only had my 6 yr old black lab dog for 7 weeks, when he came to me he had been fed on supermarket tins and mixer which I carried on with for a week or two until he had settled in a bit. However, Vets recommend dry complete food so I gradually switched him over to Wagg Complete which he absolutely loves and he is thriving on it, his coat is so beautiful and shiny too. I was a little concerned about it being so cheap and wondered if it was as good as some other complete foods until I saw a couple of vets endorsing it online somewhere (sorry can't remember where). They said it is one of the cheapest but one of the best. Also, he likes Jollye's lifestage for large breeds which contains glucosamine and chondoitrin for joint care so now I alternate between this and Wagg and he is such a happy dog! He has quite a bit of weight to lose and is slowly losing it by me feeding these two foods in smaller quantities.
