Autarky is sometimes available in some branches of Tescos and is a good complete dry food that's worth trying.

I've found the Autarky web site and can get a 15kg bag for £18.75 including delivery. Sounds good enough to try and see what happens to her tummy

Thanks for all your help. Will report back when I've tried it!

I use Arden Grange - the puppy one at the moment. It's about £34 for 15kg of the puppy stuff. Expensive it may sound but it is not full of rubbish like a few dog foods are.

At the end of the day it's about getting the balance of what your dog can tolerate, what is good for them and how much you can afford.

is that a 15kg bag? if so then it's not as cheap as it looks - we pay £34 for 15kg of Burns but it lasts 7 weeks or so for a 30kg Lab

Hi there we have an American bulldog (10mths)and we feed him on DR johns £6.99 for 15kg bag lasts about 4wks or more.We did try him on the more expensive stuff when he was a pup but it went straight through him so we have stuck to this one.
    hope this helps.

Cheap foods I rate would be Chappie, great for most delicate tums and the dry version is MUCH less stinky than its canned counterpart, Autarkey or Chudleys Classic (working dog foods are VAT free so very MSE!). Better quality foods such as James Wellbeloved, Burns or Wafcol are great but usually £35 upwards for 15kg. If you have a big dog this gets pricey.

I use dry Chappie because it's the only thing I can feed one of my dogs which doesn't leave him with colitis episodes. It's also good for keeping the weight off him, unlike nasty brands like Bakers (and HOW many colourings do they add to that stuff? Euch!) or lardy Pedigree Chum.

Another recommendation for Burns, would be careful going down the cheap food route for the sake of saving a few quid a month!

A quick word of warning for 'Working' dog foods, there is a clue in the name! Bear in mind that the average working dog can run 60 - 90 miles per day, usually 7 days a week, this food is designed to give them the energy to do that. So unless you plan on increasing your pet dogs walks then you better start watching thier waistlines!
  • I use a greyhound/ working dog mix. Its VAT free cause it says working dog and used to say for Pet dogs but to get round the VAT they changed the wording to working dog only.

    £6.99 for 15kg.
I also feed raw meat tripe/chicken/beef etc along with cooked veg.
Its very rare for my dogs to have tummy upsets and as for condition....well my dogs are winning at championship shows and my stud dogs are in demand within my breed.

Pedigree chum sponser me but have to be honest I don't feed anything of theirs except puppy food as I find it goes straight through my dogs! <yuck>
