I use a Garmin Nuvi 250 in the car and a Garmin Geko 301 on the hills. If you want a Sat Nav for hiking you really need a specialised one. They tend to be lighter, waterproof or at least water resistant and also don't have rechargabel batteries in them so you can carry spare ones. You should always carry a map and compass as well though.

For cycling you could use a car one but if you're cycling off road on Bridle Ways etc., you'll probably be better off with a specialised one again.

The hiking and cycling ones work very well with mapping software like Memory Map or Anquet.

BTW you can use some GPS units with Google Earth, you can certainly import tracks not sure if you cna plan routes and export them yet.

If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die
