Which washing machine?

Hi

I'm looking to buy a new washing machine. I'm quite interested in buying a 6kg plus, we are a family of 5 but at holidays and weekends go up to 8. What is peoples opinion?

Also what make? I don't rate hotpoint, but my mum has had a Zanussi for 7 years with only wear and tear problems.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

best wishes
Charlotte

first choice is Miele, Bosch and AEG are not bad either. Siemens - never knew anybody who had one, but it is not a real conversation piece either
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
  • wouldn't recommend indesit.

had mine just over a year and the drawer front on the soap thing has broken twice and had to call them out to fix it, also it takes over 2 hours to do a wash, quite noisy too. probably is one of the cheaper makes. so you get what you pay for.

my last one was a siemens and it was brilliant but a lot more expensive.
  • I would recommend BOSCH...I have a washing machine and tumble dryer...both are good...go for the energy efficient one..

We've always had Hotpoints in the past but never ever again.

We now have a Siemens, 7kg and can throroughly recommend it. We were torn between the Bosch and the Siemens but the extra warranty swung it plus the fact that we were told that a low end Siemens is the same as a premium level Bosch.;)

I agree with adandem - we have got a Siemens. It was the 5 year warranty that made us choose this make and of course the good reports you read. I love the fact that the one I have got has a 15 minute quick wash as well - not sure if this is on all models but it is great.

Miele are well engineered, probably too much so for a domestic appliance. Long warranty but beware expensive parts. The drain pump which costs £25 for most machines is 5x that price for a Miele.

I suggest Bosch. Get the cheapest simplest one, the important bits are all the same as more expensive models but you'll save money not having 100 different wash programmes that you'll never use anyway. I've bought about 4-5 of them for different properties over the last 10-15 years and not had any problems until they die of old age.

My 1972 Zanussi is leaking. I repaired a leak 12 years ago when I pulled it off the tip and thought I'd look up new machines as maybe it's time for a change of machine.

I learned that most new machines have a plastic tub and coins left in pockets can rupture the tub. The old Zanussi has had coins rattling around on at least 6 washes over the years so are there any new(ish) machines that have a steel tub?
