On max holding you should expect to win zero around 1 in 10 draws. Given that the average pay-out based on July's numbers is £125 for someone with max holdings, I would say for most of 2023 you've been above average, getting above easy access rates.Mee said:
Ditto! Won on average £200/month for most of 2023 thus far, but nothing this month.reeso said:Nothing won - max holding
Looking at July's draw of £1000+ prizes (its the info NS&I publish that include bond value and holdings value). Of the 17606 prizes, when looking at total holdings, 8664 (49.2%) of the winners held £49,900-£50k, compared to just 158 went to those with a total holdings of £9900-£10K. Sure anyone with full holding are likely on average to win 5 times as many prizes as someone with £10K, but it seems to indicate that a lot of people with full holdings.0 -
Maybe, but you have to wait around 5 days longer for it to show in your bankRedImp_2 said:
Is it not as exciting checking your online banking 🤷🏻♂️Stargunner said:
I can’t believe how many people don’t check them. It’s all part of the excitement checking the app to see how many prizes you have or haven’t won.RedImp_2 said:Hadn’t previously checked but in my bank I have 2 x £100 on max.0 -
Just to flag The Guardian survey on big PB winners:
Tell us: have you ever won a large prize by investing in Premium Bonds?
Have you ever won a large prize (£50,000 or more) by investing in Premium Bonds? Perhaps you have even won the £1m jackpot? Or have you held Bonds for more than 50 years and never won anything?
We’d like to know how much you won, and how long you had been investing in Bonds for, when you won, and what you spent the money on. Or if you have held bonds for more than 50 years, please let us know how long you have held them for?

If I don’t get like £300 in this months draw I think I’m going to have to get some money out!
I’ve got £50k in and have been getting less than £100 a month for a few months, sometimes nothing though some of these months I had £30 something k in so not full amount. But I see other people on here say for example that they only got £50 last month and they have been getting in the £200s for months and they don’t have the full amount in and that makes me feel a bit rubbish. I know I should have money in an ISA and am falling victim to the luck aspect of premium bonds.I don’t have any money in an ISA so should put money in that but I just worry about the notice period/penalty to get money out for fixed term ISAs as I’m not sure if I’m going to sell my place/buy a better place so my finances aren’t that predictable.
Well I hope we are all lucky this month!1 -
Just calculated and have had only £150 total spread over the last 4 months, 2 of those months I had £38k in and 2 almost the full holding. Terrible! I know everyone is just going to say that premium bonds are just for it you’ve used up your ISA allowance etc so anything from them is a bonus in a way, but I guess I’m one of those hoping for a proper win and not being rationale 😂

I wouldn't say thats what premium bonds are for.abgrad said:Just calculated and have had only £150 total spread over the last 4 months, 2 of those months I had £38k in and 2 almost the full holding. If you want to max your returns then savings are probably best.
If you want to take a chance and see what happens, stick with premium bonds.
Fixed ISAs normally have penalties of 90 or 120 days interest to withdraw early.
Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.2 -
It is your decision. You can currently get around 4.3% in an easy access ISA with no withdrawal penalties or around 5.7% in a 1 year fixed that would have a penalty on withdrawals ranging from 60-90 days loss of interest.abgrad said:Just calculated and have had only £150 total spread over the last 4 months, 2 of those months I had £38k in and 2 almost the full holding. odds of getting ~£300 on full amount are something like 5% so you've set a very high bar!abgrad said:If I don’t get like £300 in this months draw I think I’m going to have to get some money out!

You should only expect to win about £125 a month, some months nothing, some months a bit more... And the odds don't change if you've had a bad run; they are the same regardless of previous wins.
No one has ever become poor by giving1 -
At the risk of perhaps taking a throwaway comment too literally, PB holders can't all be lucky in any month! The fundamental principle of a random draw is that many will achieve an 'average luck' return, but plenty won't (and plenty will achieve more) - everyone with a maximum holding has just over 10% chance of winning nothing in any given month, and obviously that chance increases for smaller holdings....abgrad said:Well I hope we are all lucky this month!1
