I,m not a gambler but always think of the monthly Ernie draw as a bit of fun without losing your  stake.  Have other savings so happy to go with the flow and at least your money is safe!

Your stake is the interest you would have earned.

So you do lose it sometimes.

I like premium bonds, its a bit of fun and tax free. Even if its not the highest return wise.

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.

Has anyone ever won anything with just £25?  :D
I've just opened an account with 25 quid last weekend .. I didn't want to open it with more money at first, I thought they were supposed to check proof of ID and address but I had to pay right away before any checks ... so I put just 25 just in case..
I haven't been asked for any proof .. I will add more money next week or so

Someone with £4 won £5,000 but they bought in 1957....

Yes, those small amounts £4 and £10 are their total holdings.  Either the minimum buy in amount was different back then or the holders just withdrew everything else and had those amounts left in.  Sure, they've had them a while but a win is a win.

In the olden days (1956 was when they were launched) you could buy single £1 Premium Bonds.

Yes I have a few £1 holdings as in my youthful days I belonged to a small syndicate of chums.  I think we paid "half a crown" (pre decimal currency - that ages me(!) and every so often one person would get a £1 or £5 bond.  £1 was a lot of money for a struggling youngster to pay in those days.  I keep those for sentimental reasons but none of them has ever won anything.  My greatest number of wins come from a £10,000 block
  • I don't have a large holding, £5500, since July 2020, these are my winnings.

    Oct 21 £25
    Jun 22 £25
    Jan 23 £50
    Feb 23 £150
    May 23 £25
    June 23 £50

Not sure how to work it out but it feels like I've done pretty well. especially recently.
