I'll plug the figures into Martin's calculator in a bit to check. I'm not interested in investing etc for long term and as long as I don't lose anything and have easy access for when the kids / grandkids need anything, it's good enough for me.
Not sure how that compares with others - I've just discovered this thread so might read back a bit.

That’s actually a wee bit hopeless. On the other hand, you might have put it in the stock market, which didn’t do very well last year, so at least you’re in the black.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

I dunno, just checked with Martin's calculator and it's reasonable for premium bonds. There's no way I'd take a risk with it. My father once invested some money in my name to be use for treats (holidays, new tv etc) for my disabled brother. The capital value was eaten into by stock market losses and I eventually managed to cash it in (and buy him a telly, nice holiday etc with what was left). I was appalled, I felt the company had stolen from a disabled and ill person. Where did his money go? Into the pocket of some stockbroker who wasn't in need I expect.
Never again, premium bonds or ordinary low interest savings are just fine!

Well, investments can fall in value as well as crash (or something) so it may not have been possible to avoid a loss, but you’re right, somebody somewhere is paying those city bonuses. Some years back, I was contacted by Scottish widows to tell me my policy was likely to fall short of expected final value. This was in a period where the
Ftse had trebled. Either someone was getting rich at my expense or they were rubbish at their job.
Admittedly, it actually worked out pretty well at the end.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

When I logged in this morning the website was saying the draw is on 4 Feb, the NS&I Prize Checker just says “Sorry there’s a problem”. Has the Feb draw actually already happened? I haven’t won anything since last February!!0

I'm getting the same, yesterday and this morning0

According to the prize checker app, the draw has taken place.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

What a bunch of nincompoops NS&I are, to be sure.
I've just tried asking the table of high value winners to sort by "purchase [date]", in order to see how older bonds fare.
Not that easy when:
1. The primary sort is not by year but by month - and alphabetically by month, too, so all the Aprils at the start and all the Septembers at the end.
2. The secondary sort is by year - but is not Y2K-compliant. Well, they've only had 20+ years' notice to get that right.
I didn't think that my opinion of NS&I's competence could be lowered.
Wrong again.0 -
I looked up my results yesterday......
