So after the prize changes is it now better to play the lottery or buy PB's????
Playing the lotto you are risking your stake, with PB's you at least get your stake money back.

I've pulled out from this month given the changes made to the prize funds

    2 x £25 for me on a max holding.

That's £200 since (and including May).

I like the excitement of thinking I just MIGHT get a biggie!

Oh, nothing this month for me. Good luck for the rest of you though. Hope there's a big, big, big one for someone here.

The comparison always used to be between investing your money in Premium bonds, or putting your money in an instant access savings account and using just the interest earned to buy lottery tickets- so 'preserving your stake' (disregarding the effects on inflation) in both cases.

It always used to be that the latter scenario promised the best return on average, but I'm not sure what interest rate was used for the savings account calculation to come to that conclusion and whether that rate would still be achievable in this era of low interest rates.

Just because I dont want to look through 155 pages of history on this thread - has an MSE member ever won the big one and posted it on here? Is the largest win recorded here £1000? (as far as I could see).

    Just interested to know

In August 2012 I won £5k and in Feb 2012 won £500 also a few £25-50 wins. I have been very lucky in the 11 years I have held my PBs.

the chances of me winning 5 in any one month are NIL, so the fact there are still 3 x 100k going and 1 x 1m as normal, is good enough for me.

    Hmm?

Just because it's incredibly unlikely to win all of a particular tier of prize that doesn't mean your chances aren't reduced if the number of prizes in that tier is reduced. ;)
