Unless you put £30K, or something close to £30K in, you can usually get away with re-investing the "wins". Of course, any bigger ones will come as cheques, to the nominated guardian, but in the child's name. You can also ask for electronic transfer into an account in the child's name, if that account does accept electronic transfers in.

You can of course get funds with high management charges. But there are hundreds if not thousands of funds with every reasonable charges, which most certainly do not eat up any tax advantages you might get.

Investing in funds generally reduces your risk, very significantly so, compared with investing in individual shares. Even if you have Warren-Buffet-like resources and can spread your investment across many shares.

But anyway, this is the Premium Bond Winner thread - - if you want to discuss investing in shares vs investing in funds, or a combination thereof, this is best done in a different thread.

The only reason I felt it necessary to comment on funds was because you brought the subject up yourself in post number 3045. So perhaps you should take your own advise and stick to the subject.

And people say no one wins big with old PBs, well one canny Scot has won £100K this month with a holding of £10 bought in 1977.

And someone in Wales with £3 winning £25k.

Going to sulk now. Not really going to Good luck to them.

    Hi

Have the full holding on premium bonds & only winning the odd £25. Just checked online this month - surprise 1 x £25.

I have won £200 so far this year & am thinking of cashing in say £20k of old bonds which were bought between 1997 - 2011 in mainly small £25 winnings, £1000's & £2000's & re-purchasing in one go this month.

I have £11K which were bought in one go & I seem to win more on this bulk purchase.

Does any one know if you can choose which bonds you cash in now that the system is online & how long does it take for the money to hit your bank account. Also would I be able to buy the new bulk bonds by using my switch card.

    Thanks
