    1 x £25 for me on a 12k holding.

This was won from a £200 bond bought in May 2008.

Looks like £25 for us this month - which is lovely, for more than just the obvious reasons. My dad - who was a massive fan of Premium Bonds - died in early Jan 2007. My mum split his holding between my brother and me, and we didn't really think any more about it till the end of the next month - when my brother won £50 and so did I. They haven't been great money spinners, however there's been enough along the way to hold on to them, yet every January since the, I've had a small win - and I go through the same routine every time - when you find out, you have to give a small cheer and say 'Thanks, dad!'. It does feel as if he's pulling a few strings and always raises a smile.
Lovely that your dad's still looking out for you :A.

I have an offset mortgage that I have paid a fair bit off. I now have about £20k that I could draw on. I am wondering whether to put it all into bonds. I have worked out that it will cost me roughly £45 in interest extra a month on my mortgage. Does this sound mad or a good idea?

I am trying to work out what to do with this £20k facility available to me as want it to work for me instead of just sitting there.

    thanks!

I have £22,200 in premium bonds and on average 'won' £20.83 a month last year. I wouldn't advise you do this.
  • I've had 20k minimum all of last year, look at my signature... Would not advise this

I'll be cashing a good proportion to go in my Isa come April, and the lot if I don't average 25 a month by then!!!

If you want the thrill of the possibility of winning big, I'd suggest leaving the money where it is and use the £45 it earns you each month to buy lottery tickets.

This money is working for you. It's earning you 2.7% interest tax free. You might find you can do better than this with a cash ISA if you haven't used your allowance already.
Or if you're not a taxpayer you can probably beat it with an instant access savings account.

If you fancy a bit of risk, look into stocks and shares ISAs.
  • NSandI site slow today, are you all checking your bonds .... last I could see they were still showing Dec 2011 !
