  • Nothing in the last year, we have a couple of hundred quid each in PBs.

I might cash them in a buy something mad like an iPhone or a TomTom

If it takes a man a week to walk to walk a fortnight how long does it take a fly with tackity boots on to walk through a barrel of treacle?

Another 3 x £25 prizes for me this month on a £15,000 holding. So since the bonds went into the draw (two months) I have won £125.

Not sure what I would have been earning in interest though.

Say you had 15K in a 3% account, each month (based on annual interest) you'd get £37.50

And in a 4% account you'd get £50 each month (based on annual again).

Thanks for that isofa, I'm re-investing my winnings so hopefully my odds will get better every win.

Of course, for every premium bond holder who takes their money out and buys a fixed rate bond, means there is more chance I will win.

Err, no. As people cash in their bonds, the prize fund will decrease as the prize fund is calculated by multiplying the total holdings by the interest rate (which is currently 1.5%). There will be fewer prizes, so fewer winners therefore less chance of winning.
  • Go for it!

If you're fully invested elsewhere, and you think it's worth a punt, why not?

I've only got a few hundred invested in them myself, but I just regard them as a sort of Lottery Ticket, only one where you can always get your pound pack at any time.

If you've got the money and are happy with the set-up, go ahead. At least you're money's safe there. Surely better than having invested in an Icelandic bank in the past few years!

I just treat mine as a better gamble than the Lottery or the horses. The publicity over recent years (with Sir Alan et al) and 'interest rates' published miss the point - it's a gamble with a returnable stake, that's all.

Some you win, some you lose - or in this case, not. You can always cash it in again.
  • What would you say to being able to collect your money, in cash, at the Post Office?

If we can introduce PayOffline into nsandi they will be able to simply enable cash payments via a barcode that is emailed to the winners or and SMS text message.

pointless, it would be easier if they just credit winnings into my current account.
